Chapter 37: The Witch of Vengeance (Part 2)

Within the distorted shadows, pairs of scarlet pupils lit up. Three Shadow Guards appeared silently behind Gordon and his companions.

Before the exit, Gordon was carefully observing the outside, checking if there were any more monsters. Suddenly, Gordon instinctively sensed something unusual behind him and quickly turned his head to look back.

"Nina, be careful!"

Immediately after, Gordon, with a sinister grin, hugged the last Shadow Guard in front of him. He tightly gripped the Shadow Guard's neck with one hand, and with the other, he tore off the pouch at his waist. He knew his strength was not enough to stop these monsters, so...

"Die with me!"

Gordon laughed as he threw the bag in his hand onto the ground. Instantly, the contents shattered. The gray cloth bag was corroded away, and a black mist spread out, instantly corroding large holes in the sewer's stone walls.

Gordon, enveloped by the black mist, had become a bloody mess, with black spots covering his exposed white bones. As for the Shadow Guard he was holding, its body had also been largely dissolved, with drops of black liquid constantly dripping from it.

Tuka's wife looked back in the direction of Ereccia and muttered to herself. Then, carrying Nina on her back, she pulled her son and staggered into the forest. She knew that Gordon's strength wouldn't be able to hold off those monsters for long.

To not let Gordon, her husband, and Keith's sacrifice be in vain, she had to take the remaining people and survive.

"Mom, are those the monsters!"

Suddenly, Tuka's son trembled all over and pointed at the distant river surface. Two Shadow Guards were floating on it, steadily advancing towards their location, and would soon catch up to them.

".Follow me!"

Tuka's wife glanced back at the two Shadow Guards on the river and gritted her teeth, continuing to walk forward while carefully observing the surroundings. After a few minutes, a low, dense, but inconspicuous bush appeared before her eyes.

Seeing this, Tuka's wife showed a slight smile. She gently put Nina down from her back, then pushed Nina into the bush. After confirming that no signs could be seen from the outside, she had her son crawl in as well, asking him to take Nina's cloth bag from her waist and hand it to her.

Suddenly, just as Keith's dagger was about to pierce the Shadow Guard's heart, the Shadow Guard, which had been attacking frantically, stopped. Its body, made of shadow, exploded into tiny pieces and began to disappear. Keith, who had been holding on with his last breath after the Shadow Guard's death, could no longer sustain himself and his body crashed heavily to the ground.

Holes had been ripped through his young chest, blood and internal organs continuously flowed out, and his dark brown pupils began to lose focus.

"Keith! Keith!"

With tears in her eyes, Nina dragged herself inch by inch towards Keith using her arms and chin. Looking at his mangled body and vacant eyes, she called out to him.

Countless images of death flashed through Nina's mind. Amidst the wails of pain, anger, despair, and hatred, a line of bloody tears flowed down Nina's cheeks. Black flames ignited, gradually engulfing her completely.

And in the last second before Nina fainted, she seemed to hear a voice.

"Acquired Unique Skill [Witch of Vengeance]: Endless rage and hatred have turned into soul-burning flames. The flames of vengeance will burn everything. Until eternity."

In the dim, quiet bushes, black flames began to continuously burn everything around them. The magic elements in the air, the trees beside Nina, the soil beneath her – everything became fuel for the flames. However, when the black flames touched Keith's corpse, they uniquely avoided him.

Within the flames, Nina's injuries were rapidly healing. Her long black hair grew continuously, and even her petite body began to change. Her legs became slender, her chest began to swell, and the aura she exuded became cold yet scorching, terrifying. It was the rage and hatred of a witch.
