We had no choice but to take the gamble.
Right now, we were like the old, weak, sick, and disabled, able to act only when the Institute itself ran into trouble.

We might as well kill ourselves on the spot.
Running would be pointless anyway.

What happened next was simple. The four of them embarked on a search for the kitchen.
The Institute did indeed have a cafeteria.
However, it did not provide normal food, but rather food containing supernatural elements. The Recorder and the other two could not eat such things. If ordinary people consumed anything tainted by the supernatural, something would very likely go wrong.
So what they needed to find was ordinary food.
"Corpses... So many corpses. One, two... nine..."

As they went deeper into the corridor, the number of corpses on the ground increased. Blood flowed everywhere, and the ways they had died were bizarre.
Some had large holes in their chests, their hearts dug out.
Some had their entire abdominal cavities gone, allowing one to see the floor behind them at a glance.
Others showed no injuries on the surface, but their bodies collapsed at the slightest touch... Their bones had been pulled out despite there being no wounds.

There were also people who were truly unharmed, seemingly asleep with peaceful expressions.
