The rain poured down.
The pothole-ridden road was a muddy mess, making the car lurch and sway as it struggled forward. Every so often, it sank into a rut, and whenever that happened, Xiao Hu could only get out with his tools and figure something out.
He couldn't possibly let Master Kui push the car, could he?
What kind of propriety would that be?
Nothing unusual had happened since they arrived here, and Zhang Kui'an gradually relaxed.
"Xiao Hu, don't worry."
"Once we reach the residence, I won't treat you poorly."
Once again, Xiao Hu returned drenched from head to toe and restarted the car. Zhang Kui'an said leisurely, "I remember your parents are still in the countryside, right? How old are they this year? What do they live on?"
"Master Kui."
"My parents are both in the countryside. My father is sixty, and my mother is fifty-five this year."
"Our family has a few acres of land. We can barely make ends meet."
Xiao Hu answered honestly.
"Is that so?"
"Tomorrow, have someone bring both your parents into the city."
"At their age, why should they still be stuck in the countryside doing farm work? A few acres aren't even enough to feed them. Once they arrive, I'll have someone arrange a place for them to live."
"You drive for me, and I won't treat you poorly. From now on, your income will be enough to support your parents."
Zhang Kui'an said with a smile.
"Thank you, Master Kui. Thank you, Master Kui."
Xiao Hu thanked him repeatedly.
Outside the car window, the surrounding woods gradually gave way to farmland. The rolling hills in the distance were planted with all kinds of fruit trees. The car continued onward and soon arrived at an old-fashioned town.
"Master Kui, we're here."
