Late at night.
Ninggu City had fallen into an eerie silence.
After the great battle during the day, the entire city seemed to have been drained of all sound.
Not even the chirping of insects could be heard.
Only the occasional gust of wind blew through the empty streets, sweeping up a few fallen leaves with a rustling sound.
Jiang Qiao was not asleep.
He sat alone in a room on the second floor of the inn.
An oil lamp burned on the table, its flame flickering and casting swaying shadows on the walls. The window was half-open, revealing the pitch-black night sky outside. There was no moon, and the stars were sparse.
Around midnight,
the temperature in the room suddenly dropped, and an inexplicable chill that seeped into the bones spread through the room.
The flame of the oil lamp suddenly shrank into a faint green speck the size of a mung bean.
Then it slowly returned to normal.
"Hmm?"
Jiang Qiao raised his head.
At some point, a white lantern had appeared in the corner of the room.
The lantern was pasted with white paper, with neither words nor patterns on it. The light shining from within was bleak and pallid.

It had the outline of a woman, but her features could not be seen clearly, as though she stood behind frosted glass.

Jiang Qiao repeated the name and nodded. "A fine name."
"May I ask why Miss
