"What was that?"
Old Jin was puzzled, but also somewhat wary.
The window across the street, from which the object had been thrown, stood open. It was pitch-black inside, and nothing could be seen. Yet some subconscious instinct told him that someone was standing by the window.
He looked down at the street again. The thing that had struck the ground was a dark, shapeless lump, making it impossible to tell what it was.
Without showing anything on his face, he moved away from the window.
Carefully, Old Jin took a low-light night-vision telescope from the drawer beside him. His son had brought it home from work, and it had been left there ever since.
He went to the window again, placed the telescope against a gap in the curtain, and brought his eye to the lens—
"My God!"
The next second, Old Jin's expression changed drastically, and he nearly cried out in alarm.
Fortunately, he reacted in time and immediately clamped his mouth shut.
But the violent fluctuations in his expression and the cold sweat beading on his forehead betrayed the terror in his heart.
The thing lying on the ground.
Was actually the incomplete upper torso of a human being, including part of the chest and abdomen!
"How could something like that be thrown out... There's a ghost haunting the place. It has to be a ghost..." Old Jin did not dare look again, much less peek into the windows of the building opposite.
He immediately turned around and left, intending to press the alarm bell beside the living room door.
Black Mountain County was not a major city, and its daily power supply was limited. However, for the sake of early warnings, every household had still been equipped with an alarm bell powered by a hand-cranked generator.
