Background & History

Kyoto was the capital of Great Yuan and the nexus of the Nine Dragons Convergence, with exceptionally dense and interwoven Spirit Veins beneath even its ordinary streets. Unauthorized alterations to its Feng Shui or Spirit Veins were prohibited and required reporting to the Directorate of Celestial Observation. 14

Despite its political importance, the early Capital was marked by severe inequality: beggars froze to death in its streets while noble estates and exclusive establishments flourished. 1

The city endured Demon King Yu's assault during the fourth Great Demon Uprising. The Nan River was drawn toward Kyoto to damage its terrain and Earth Veins, while the defenders used the Nine Yuan Seal and Kyoto's Earth Veins to restrain the Demon King. Chen Mu's arrival and single strike against Yu ended the uprising after six months. 125 127 129

Following the Longzheng Emperor's death, Kyoto underwent an orderly reconstruction under the deterrence of Chen Mu's presence. Xi Yu was subsequently established as the new emperor through the recognition of the Nine Yuan Seal. 131 135

After Da Yuan became an Immortal Dynasty, Kyoto developed into an Immortal City. Its spiritual-energy concentration surpassed that of the surrounding lands, and its Imperial City was rebuilt into an expansive complex of jade-paved immortal palaces. 204 230

Geography & Cityscape

Kyoto's dense underground Spirit Veins make it both a place of exceptional spiritual potential and a constant source of Earth Vein Evil Qi. The Directorate of Celestial Observation concentrates and suppresses this evil qi within its grounds. 14 73

In its earlier appearance, the city was snow-covered in winter, with Apricot Flower House rising conspicuously above the surrounding buildings and overlooking the flower district. 11

Following its transformation into an Immortal City:

• Only Golden Core True Persons may fly within the inner and outer city.
• Flight above the central Imperial City is prohibited.
• Palace maids and officials within the Imperial City possess Foundation Establishment cultivation.
• The former stone Golden Dragon remains as a memorial, though the will left by past Celestial Masters and Martial Saints has gradually dissipated. 230

Landmarks

• Imperial Palace — Seat of Great Yuan's imperial authority and the location of the Nine Yuan Seal. The deaths of the Longzheng Emperor and numerous imperial descendants were discovered here following the battle against Demon King Yu. 131 135
• Star Gazing Tower — Central facility of the Directorate of Celestial Observation. Director Bai Ze used it to mobilize Kyoto's Earth Veins during the defense against Demon King Yu. 73 127
• Demon Sealing Towers — Towers that imprison demons and use their bodies as formation bases to resist the Earth Vein Evil Qi drawn into the Directorate's grounds. 73
• Apricot Flower House — A seven-story establishment on the Capital's eastern side, opposite the flower district. It hosted noble young masters, renowned courtesans, and guarded its upper floors with martial artists. 11
• Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion — A large merchant house in the north of the Capital, occupying several storefronts along its busiest and broadest street. 10

Defenses

Earth Veins and Terrain

Kyoto's Spirit Veins can be incorporated into large-scale formations and used to influence the surrounding terrain. Bai Ze's Earth Veins Dharma Image, manifested through the Star Gazing Tower, drew upon the city's accumulated Earth Vein power to confront Demon King Yu. 73 126 127

• Three Earth Vein chains were used to bind Demon King Yu and his Dharma Image. 127
• The defense came at the cost of Bai Ze's Earth Veins Dharma Image collapsing. 127
• The Nan River's forced approach weakened Kyoto's Earth Veins by two-tenths during the assault. 127

Nine Yuan Seal

The Nine Yuan Seal is Great Yuan's national treasure, historically wielded by successive emperors through bloodline recognition rather than cultivation rank. It specializes in suppression and was activated against Demon King Yu during the siege. 127 135

• The Seal recognized Xi Yu as the legitimate successor after the Longzheng Emperor's death. 135
• Its suppression alone was insufficient to defeat Demon King Yu, but it created an opening for the coordinated defense. 127

Heaven and Earth Spirit Array

Chen Mu later constructed a Heaven and Earth Spirit Array spanning all of Kyoto. Its foundation extends into the Spirit Realm. 204

• It greatly increases Kyoto's spiritual-energy concentration.
• It can suppress even Golden Core True Persons above the Ten Tribulations.
• It is invincible against opponents below the True Lord realm while active.
• Only Chen Mu and Empress Xi Yu, who possesses the Array Token and array core, can control it. 204

Government and Security

The Capital's security is administered by the Five Cities Garrison, divided into East, South, West, North, and Central commanderies. The four outer commanderies are led by Sixth Rank commanders with Seventh Rank deputy commanders; the Central commandery is led by a Fifth Rank official. 23

The Directorate of Celestial Observation holds exceptional authority within Kyoto. Sorcerers of higher rank may enter the Imperial Court without ordinary ceremonial restrictions, while a Third Rank Director is treated by the emperor as an equal. 122
