Background / History
Harry first meets Hermione Granger and Linley Li aboard the Hogwarts Express, joining their compartment after finding the others full. Linley helps him lift his trunk, treating him without unusual attention to his fame or scar. Harry is later sorted into Gryffindor after resisting the Sorting Hat’s consideration of Slytherin. 13 14
During his first year, he joins Linley, Hermione, and Ron in investigating the Philosopher’s Stone. He receives an Invisibility Cloak and helps uncover that Fluffy guards a trapdoor leading toward the Stone. 26
Harry becomes Gryffindor’s Seeker after catching a test Golden Snitch during tryouts, overcoming Draco Malfoy’s public mockery of his old broom. 25
As the conflict with Voldemort escalates, Dumbledore entrusts Harry with the task of destroying Horcruxes. Harry struggles with the burden of prophecy, grief over Sirius Black’s death, and the danger of Voldemort’s mental connection, but repeatedly accepts help from Hermione and Linley rather than acting alone. 150 174 184 188
Following Dumbledore’s death, Harry falls into despair until Linley and Hermione use Star Magic to summon a Silver Doe that guides him to the Sword of Gryffindor. Recovering the sword renews his resolve to continue Dumbledore’s mission. 213 214
During the war’s final phase, Harry allows Voldemort to strike him. In the resulting liminal encounter with Dumbledore, he learns that Voldemort’s soul fragment within him has been destroyed and that his sacrifice has made Voldemort mortal and defeatable. Harry chooses to return to the battlefield. 251
After the war, Harry publicly reveals Severus Snape’s loyalty and sacrifices, proposing the Professor Snape Potions Scholarship in his honor. 259
Personality
Harry is courageous and deeply protective of those he loves, but his fear for Sirius and the pressure of his connection to Voldemort can make him impulsive. When Voldemort sends him a false vision of Sirius being tortured, Harry initially tries to rush to the Ministry before Hermione, Ron, and Linley stop him and verify that Sirius is safe. 174
He carries guilt intensely. After using Sectumsempra on Draco Malfoy, he is horrified by the harm he caused, withdraws from others, and later confesses his regret to Hermione and Linley. Their support helps him distinguish the desire for power from the choices that define him. 204 205
Harry is also vulnerable to the temptation of shortcuts and absolute power. He is drawn to the Half-Blood Prince’s notes and later to the Deathly Hallows, partly from a longing to restore those he has lost; however, he ultimately agrees to prioritize destroying Horcruxes. 200 224 225
