Teaching Without Teaching
Little Yu'er's life in the sect began.
Every day, he ate, slept, and lived alongside Mo Hua. Going to class together, however, was out of the question.
He had only just entered Qi Refining and needed to nourish his meridians and build a solid foundation.
Methods for strengthening one's foundation were extremely costly, requiring vast quantities of heavenly treasures and precious Spirit Liquid. The specific methods also varied from person to person, and every aristocratic family had different inherited techniques. Void Gate did not teach such things either.
So when Mo Hua went to the Preaching Pavilion for class, Yu'er stayed in the Disciple Quarters to strengthen his foundation, cultivate, and do his lessons. Wenren Wei also guided him as he studied Dao cultivation texts.
After class, Mo Hua returned to the Disciple Quarters.
Yu'er sat beside him with a little bowl in his hands and ate with him.
The other disciples were dumbfounded when they saw tiny Yu'er.
He wore a small Void Gate robe and looked like a Void Gate disciple, but he was far too young to possibly be one...
Cheng Mo asked Mo Hua, "Mo Hua, who's this little one?"
Yu'er was unhappy. In a childish voice, he said, "I'm not a little one. My name is Shangguan Yu!"
"Shangguan Yu?" Cheng Mo frowned. "The Shangguan Family?"
But Yu'er ignored him, lowered his head, and imitated Mo Hua as he shoveled rice into his mouth.
Helpless, Cheng Mo could hardly get angry with a little child, so he asked Mo Hua again.
"Your little brother?"
Mo Hua rubbed Yu'er's head. "More or less..."
Cheng Mo looked Mo Hua over, then looked Yu'er over, muttering, "They really do look a little alike..."
