He glanced back into the darkness. Far from the camp, another campfire shimmered like a distant star. Its light was so faint it seemed liable to go out at any moment.

Beside the campfire stood what appeared to be a small, solitary figure.

Seeing this, Brando could not help sighing inwardly.

It was not that he did not want the little Half-Elf girl to camp with them, but her wariness exceeded his imagination. He did not know what kind of experiences had shaped a little girl into someone like this. However, no matter what they said, she refused to approach their camp. She was only willing to set up a camp of her own several dozen meters away.

She had refused their help. Though it had been somewhat difficult, she had completed both the small campfire and the simple tent herself. The only time she had spoken was when Huang Huo delivered the canvas and wood for the tent. Then the little Elf girl had merely said, "Thank you."

However, she apparently had not realized that the so-called "extra" wood and canvas had actually been taken directly from a perfectly good tent by Brando.

When they started their fire, Brando noticed that the little Elf girl was setting up her tent alone. After night fell, while they were roasting fish, she was still setting it up. Now, that lonely figure had finally stopped. It seemed that she had at least managed to establish her camp.

Brando crossed the dozen or so meters of darkness between the two camps. When he reached the faint campfire, he saw this scene.

The campfire sat inside a windbreak made of several stones. Only a few flames remained among the embers of the deadwood. The Half-Elf girl still wore her tattered, noticeably oversized Goathead Cultist
