Ch. 841People Really Shouldn't Be Too Arrogant—Demons Neither

Chapter Summary: “People Really Shouldn’t Be Too Arrogant—Demons Neither”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Tai Yi undergoes the Primordial Unity Heavenly Tribulation in the Demon Realm. The tribulation becomes increasingly powerful, badly damaging both him and the Chaos Bell.
  • The tribulation evolves into a phantom of Zixiao Palace and produces over a thousand Innate Spirit Treasure projections. Tai Yi uses the Chaos Bell to destroy many of them, provoking an even stronger assault.
  • Three supreme treasure phantoms—the Taiji Diagram, Pangu Banner, and Chaos Bell—appear. Tai Yi counters them with the Eastern Emperor Sword, River Diagram, and Luo Script while personally battling the remaining treasure projections.
  • Xuanxiao secretly observes the tribulation and judges that Tai Yi’s foundation is exceptionally strong. He predicts that Tai Yi will reach the Third Heaven of the Primordial Grand Luo Golden Immortal realm if he succeeds.
  • Xuanxiao decides to lift the Primordial Wilderness’s long-standing suppression on breakthroughs to the Primordial Grand Luo realm, since the world has grown powerful enough to support more high-level beings. Tai Yi, unfortunately, is undergoing his tribulation before receiving this benefit.
  • Xuanxiao notices Bodhi Daoist beside the Five-Colored Stone on Flower-Fruit Mountain. He recognizes that the stone contains the final fragment of the Chaos Demon God Zhan’s divided true spirit—the future Sun Wukong.
  • Xuanxiao reflects on Sun Wukong’s predetermined role in the Sages’ plans and promises to save him once in the future, thereby settling their ancient karmic connection.
  • Tai Yi defeats all the Spirit Treasure phantoms and reaches the final stage of the tribulation. He boldly challenges the last trial, only to see a humanoid phantom whose face leaves him shocked and despairing. The chapter ends on this cliffhanger, with the observers sympathetically recognizing that Tai Yi’s arrogance has finally provoked an overwhelming opponent.

Character Developments

  • Tai Yi: Demonstrates immense resilience, combat ability, and confidence. He fights despite severe injuries and shows that years of suppression have strengthened rather than weakened his foundation. However, his excessive bravado collapses when the final tribulation takes an unexpectedly personal and terrifying form.
  • Xuanxiao: Acts as both observer and hidden manipulator of the era. He acknowledges Tai Yi’s strength, removes the world’s restrictions on future breakthroughs, and shows compassion toward Sun Wukong while maintaining a playful, teasing attitude toward Tai Yi.
  • Sun Wukong’s future identity: The Five-Colored Stone is revealed to contain the last fragment of Demon God Zhan’s true spirit. His destiny as the Spirit-Aware Stone Monkey—and as a crucial figure in Buddhism’s future rise—has already been arranged by the Sages.
  • Demon God Zhan: His arrogance and challenge to the justice of the Great Dao led to his downfall, and his divided spirit became the Four Chaos-born Monkeys.

Significant Themes

  • Arrogance and consequences: Tai Yi’s fearless provocation of the tribulation mirrors Demon God Zhan’s former defiance. The final phantom suggests that excessive confidence can invite a crushing response.
  • Fate versus free will: Sun Wukong’s life is effectively planned before his birth, showing how powerful beings manipulate destiny for larger religious and political designs.
  • Karma and repayment: Xuanxiao’s promise to help Sun Wukong reflects the continuing influence of ancient relationships and karmic debts.
  • Growth of the world and changing eras: The Primordial Wilderness has evolved enough to support more powerful cultivators, marking a new period in which breakthroughs will become easier.
  • Strength through suppression: Tai Yi’s long confinement and blocked Dao path have paradoxically forged an exceptionally solid foundation.

Character Interactions

  • Tai Yi and the heavenly tribulation: Their battle escalates from endurance to direct confrontation, with Tai Yi repeatedly answering each new manifestation of power through increasingly aggressive resistance.
  • Xuanxiao and Tai Yi: Xuanxiao watches Tai Yi with approval and amusement, recognizing his talent while deliberately withholding the news that the world’s restrictions have been lifted.
  • Xuanxiao and Sun Wukong’s future self: Xuanxiao identifies the connection between the Five-Colored Stone and Demon God Zhan, expresses pity for the unborn Sun Wukong, and promises limited intervention.
  • The observing Great Beings and Tai Yi: They witness his final shock with a mixture of sympathy and amusement, reinforcing the chapter’s concluding lesson that even demons should not become too arrogant.

Ch. 842Tai Yi Attains the Primordial Unity Dao

Chapter Summary: Tai Yi Attains the Primordial Unity Dao

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Tai Yi’s Primordial Unity Heavenly Tribulation reaches its extreme after he repeatedly provokes it and demands to see its strongest power.
  • Xuanxiao, the Dao Venerable, manifests personally as the final tribulation opponent. Although restricted to a quarter-hour and the Primordial Golden Immortal Early Stage, he warns Tai Yi that he will not show mercy.
  • Xuanxiao first heals Tai Yi’s injuries, allowing him to fight at full strength. Tai Yi briefly regains his confidence, believing he might still defeat Xuanxiao.
  • Xuanxiao immediately shatters that confidence by unleashing lightning with power comparable to a Primordial Grand Luo Golden Immortal. He explains that cultivation realm alone does not determine combat strength.
  • Tai Yi changes his strategy and attempts to rely on defense and evasion, using the River Diagram, Luo Script, and Chaos Bell. However, Xuanxiao overwhelms him with relentless lightning attacks and close-range blows.
  • Xuanxiao severely batters Tai Yi, piercing his Golden Crow wing and damaging even the Eastern Emperor Bell. The watching Primordial Wilderness beings sympathize with the normally proud Eastern Emperor.
  • When the quarter-hour restriction ends, Xuanxiao’s phantom disappears, leaving Tai Yi battered but alive.
  • The Heavenly Dao then pours immense origin and creation energy into Tai Yi, repairing his body, rebuilding his Dao foundation, and tempering his Golden Crow true body.
  • Tai Yi realizes that Xuanxiao’s attacks had secretly infused him with the pure Origin of the Lightning Great Dao. The apparent torture was actually a method of breaking his shackles and strengthening his foundation.
  • Filled with gratitude and shame for doubting Xuanxiao, Tai Yi acknowledges the Dao Venerable’s benevolence. Meanwhile, Xuanxiao privately admits that he had mainly been enjoying the fight rather than deliberately planning such a profound method.
  • The chapter ends with the Primordial Wilderness suddenly darkening as a massive shadow appears above the Nine Heavens, setting up a new threat or event.

Character Developments

  • Tai Yi: His arrogance and confidence are completely crushed by Xuanxiao’s overwhelming strength. He learns humility, abandons reckless assumptions, and gains a deeper foundation through the tribulation. His respect and gratitude toward Xuanxiao increase greatly.
  • Xuanxiao: He is portrayed as overwhelmingly powerful, casual, and inscrutable. Despite appearing to torment Tai Yi, his actions ultimately help Tai Yi break through. His humorous indifference contrasts with Tai Yi’s intense emotional reactions.
  • The watching beings: Their perception of Tai Yi shifts from awe at his dominance to sympathy as they witness him being effortlessly defeated.

Significant Themes

  • True strength transcends cultivation realm: Xuanxiao demonstrates that profound foundations and mastery can allow someone at a lower apparent realm to defeat a higher-level opponent.
  • Humility through overwhelming defeat: Tai Yi’s pride must be shattered before he can truly advance.
  • Suffering as transformation: The brutal beating becomes a process of forging Tai Yi’s body and Dao foundation, turning destruction into rebirth.
  • Misjudgment and hidden benevolence: Tai Yi initially interprets Xuanxiao’s actions as cruelty, but later recognizes their beneficial purpose.
  • The gap between appearance and reality: Xuanxiao seems to be fighting for amusement, yet his attacks produce major benefits for Tai Yi; meanwhile, his restricted cultivation conceals extraordinary combat ability.

Character Interactions

  • Xuanxiao teases Tai Yi for provoking the tribulation and mocks his sudden humility.
  • Tai Yi alternates between fear, forced respect, renewed confidence, and complete despair in response to Xuanxiao’s actions.
  • Xuanxiao repeatedly exposes Tai Yi’s overconfidence, forcing him to abandon pride and fight cautiously.
  • After the battle, Tai Yi feels ashamed for suspecting that Xuanxiao was punishing him, while Xuanxiao remains unaware that Tai Yi interprets the beating as deliberate guidance.

Ch. 843Finally Back!

Chapter Summary: “Finally Back!”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • A massive continent from beyond the realm descends into the Primordial Wilderness, initially causing alarm that another Great Thousand World might be invading.
  • The inhabitants soon realize that the continent is an incomplete and damaged Great Thousand World, possessing less than thirty percent of its original reserves and no longer capable of nurturing the strongest experts.
  • The continent is revealed to contain the returning Three Pure Ones—Yuanshi, Taiqing, and the other members—as well as Gonggong, Zhurong, and numerous Ancestral Witches.
  • Their return causes widespread excitement, especially among disciples of the Three Sects, who have suffered under Buddhism’s rapid expansion during the Three Pure Ones’ absence.
  • Buddhism has taken control of most of the west and begun encroaching on the South Sea, directly threatening the Dragon Clan’s traditional territory.
  • The returning group is confirmed to be the Witch Clan and Three Pure Ones returning from an Outer Realm Great Thousand World they had previously discovered.
  • Chen Nan and the others witness the Primordial Wilderness for the first time and are overwhelmed by its immense scale, complete laws, and profound Dao foundation.
  • Xuanxiao’s incarnation, having completed its mission, dissolves into Spirit Light and returns to his true body.
  • Xuanxiao instructs the Three Pure Ones to return to their sects and stabilize their disciples. However, he warns them that Buddhism’s flourishing is an unavoidable trend of the Heavenly Dao and must not be obstructed.
  • This declaration shocks the Primordial Wilderness. Zhunti celebrates, believing Buddhism’s rise has received unquestionable divine sanction, while Jieyin remains uneasy.
  • Many powerful beings abandon their neutral stance and begin considering whether to support Buddhism in order to benefit from the new Heavenly Dao trend.
  • The chapter ends with Xuanxiao focusing his attention on Chen Nan and, more specifically, a mysterious sphere of light beside him.

Character Developments

  • Eastern Emperor Tai Yi: After being defeated by Xuanxiao during his tribulation, he hopes the arriving Outer Realm force will provide a powerful opponent and help restore his confidence. His excitement turns to disappointment when he realizes the foreign world is too damaged to produce a worthy adversary.
  • Gonggong and Zhurong: Their long-standing rivalry remains unchanged, as they immediately begin provoking one another upon returning. Their argument demonstrates their fiery personalities and enduring feud.
  • Yuanshi and the Three Pure Ones: Their return restores confidence among their sects, but Xuanxiao’s warning forces them to restrain their hostility toward Buddhism, despite Buddhism having exploited their absence.
  • Chen Nan and his companions: They are deeply awed by the Primordial Wilderness and recognize how vastly superior it is to their own world, the Tomb of Gods.
  • Xuanxiao: He reclaims his true body after his incarnation disappears. He establishes the political and spiritual direction of the current era by affirming Buddhism’s destined prosperity.
  • Zhunti and Jieyin: Zhunti becomes jubilant at Xuanxiao’s words, while Jieyin senses that the declaration may conceal deeper implications and remains troubled.
  • The wider Great Beings: Their attitudes shift from waiting and balancing between factions to actively considering alignment with Buddhism.

Significant Themes

  • The inevitability of Heavenly Dao and fate: Xuanxiao’s declaration that Buddhism is destined to flourish emphasizes that certain historical and cosmic trends cannot be overturned by individual powers.
  • Return and restoration: The arrival of the Three Pure Ones and Ancestral Witches marks the restoration of major forces that had been absent, immediately changing the balance of power.
  • Power and political realignment: The Three Pure Ones’ return threatens Buddhism, but Xuanxiao’s intervention prevents an immediate confrontation and forces the powerful factions to reconsider their alliances.
  • Contrast between worlds: Chen Nan’s awe highlights the enormous difference between the incomplete Outer Realm world and the fully developed Primordial Wilderness.
  • Suppressed grievances and renewed hope: The Three Sects’ disciples finally release centuries of frustration when their leaders return, revealing how deeply Buddhism’s expansion had affected them.
  • Hidden consequences of apparent victory: Although Zhunti views Xuanxiao’s statement as an absolute victory for Buddhism, Jieyin’s unease suggests that Buddhism’s prosperity may come with unforeseen costs.

Important Character Interactions

  • Gonggong and Zhurong: Their verbal confrontation nearly becomes a physical fight before Yuanshi attempts to intervene.
  • Yuanshi and the unruly pair: Yuanshi first tries to calm them, then silences them completely with a brief command, demonstrating his authority.
  • Xuanxiao and the Three Pure Ones: Xuanxiao respectfully acknowledges their return but firmly warns them not to oppose Buddhism’s destined rise. The Three Pure Ones accept his authority without protest.
  • Zhunti and Jieyin: Zhunti interprets Xuanxiao’s words as a major triumph, while Jieyin reacts with caution and suspicion.
  • Xuanxiao and Chen Nan: After returning to his true body, Xuanxiao directs his attention toward Chen Nan and the mysterious sphere of light beside him, setting up the next development.

Ch. 844I Observe That You Are Fated to Have a Connection with Our Buddhist Sect

Chapter 844 Summary

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Xuanxiao formally assumes the title of Dao Venerable, instructing Chen Nan and the others to address him accordingly.
  • The Heavenly Dao of the Tomb of Gods World chooses to settle the entire world at the dangerous border between the Primordial Wilderness and the Void Realm. Xuanxiao relocates the continent there.
  • After a century of integration, the Tomb of Gods World successfully merges into the Primordial Wilderness. Its Heavenly Dao dissolves into the Primordial Great Dao.
  • Xuanxiao preserves the Heavenly Dao’s final spiritual essence and places it within his own Primordial Realm to manage that world. He transforms it into a white spirit cat, names her Xiaoli, and grants her administrative authority.
  • The newly integrated Tomb of Gods World attracts the attention of the Void Realm, native Primordial Wilderness factions, Buddhism, the Dragon Clan, and the Interception Sect.
  • The Sanxiao sisters arrive both to investigate the newcomers and to welcome their junior brother, Dugu Baitian, back to the Interception Sect.
  • Yunxiao explains that Chen Nan and Chen Zhan’s rapid cultivation came partly from the flawed and incomplete Great Dao of the Tomb of Gods World. Their realms are powerful but their foundations are weaker than those of Primordial Wilderness cultivators and will require refinement.
  • Chen Nan openly challenges the hidden observers to reveal themselves. His cultivation as a perfected Primordial Golden Immortal frightens away most factions.
  • Buddhist figure Dashizhi arrives first, seeking influence over the Tomb of Gods World. Chaofeng of the Dragon Clan and the Sanxiao sisters confront him, accusing Buddhism of expanding aggressively into the East Sea.
  • Dashizhi counters with clever rhetoric, implying that the Dragon Clan and Interception Sect are illegally claiming public territory.
  • Yunxiao avoids the verbal trap and formally welcomes Dugu Baitian on behalf of the Interception Sect.
  • The Dragon Clan attempts to recruit Dragon Baby and the Purple Gold Divine Dragon, indirectly hoping to draw Chen Nan closer. They politely refuse, though they accept Dragon Blood Pills as a diplomatic gift.
  • Dashizhi then makes a startling direct proposal to Chen Nan, claiming that Chen Nan is fated to have an affinity with Buddhism and inviting him to join the Buddhist sect.

Character Developments

  • Xuanxiao demonstrates his authority and foresight by reorganizing the Primordial Realm and repurposing the Tomb of Gods World’s Heavenly Dao rather than allowing it to vanish.
  • Xiaoli is created as the first Heavenly Dao of the Primordial Realm, shifting from an impersonal sphere of light into a sentient, obedient spirit cat.
  • Chen Nan is revealed as an exceptionally powerful but potentially unstable newcomer. His perfected Primordial Golden Immortal cultivation is enough to deter most factions, though he must eventually repair the weaknesses in his Dao foundation.
  • Chen Zhan, the Demon Lord, and Dugu Baitian remain formidable figures but are currently only at the Grand Luo Golden Immortal level.
  • Yunxiao emerges as the thoughtful and composed leader of the Sanxiao sisters, correcting her younger sisters’ misconceptions and handling Dashizhi’s provocation diplomatically.
  • Bixiao and Qiongxiao display curiosity and emotional reactions toward Chen Nan’s astonishing cultivation, while also revealing their relative lack of diligence compared with Yunxiao.
  • Dugu Baitian is formally recognized as a junior brother of the Interception Sect, confirming his new affiliation.
  • Dragon Baby and the Purple Gold Divine Dragon show loyalty to the Tomb of Gods World while maintaining diplomacy with the Dragon Clan.
  • Dashizhi is portrayed as politically aggressive, eloquent, and calculating, using both territorial rhetoric and recruitment to expand Buddhism’s influence.

Significant Themes

  • Integration and adaptation: The Tomb of Gods World must adjust to the complete and more demanding Great Dao of the Primordial Wilderness.
  • Power versus foundation: High cultivation does not necessarily indicate equal Dao depth; rapid advancement under a flawed world system leaves hidden weaknesses.
  • Political competition: The arrival of a new world creates an opportunity that major factions immediately seek to exploit.
  • Diplomacy and manipulation: Alliances, gifts, recruitment, and verbal traps become tools in the struggle for influence.
  • Order and administration: Xuanxiao’s creation of Xiaoli reflects the need for stable governance as new territories and worlds are incorporated.
  • Belonging and allegiance: Dugu Baitian’s return to the Interception Sect and Dashizhi’s attempt to recruit Chen Nan highlight competing claims over the newcomers’ loyalties.

Important Character Interactions

  • Xuanxiao gives the Heavenly Dao of the Tomb of Gods World a new purpose as Xiaoli, establishing a master-servant relationship.
  • The Sanxiao sisters discuss Chen Nan’s power and receive Yunxiao’s explanation of the limitations of the Tomb of Gods cultivators.
  • Chen Nan confronts the hidden observers, asserting confidence and protecting his world through sheer presence.
  • Dashizhi clashes verbally with Chaofeng and the Sanxiao sisters over Buddhism’s expansion into the East Sea.
  • Yunxiao welcomes Dugu Baitian, publicly securing him for the Interception Sect.
  • Chaofeng offers Dragon Blood Pills to Dragon Baby and the Purple Gold Divine Dragon after they decline recruitment.
  • Dashizhi unexpectedly turns his attention to Chen Nan, declaring that Chen Nan has a Buddhist connection and inviting him to join Buddhism, ending the chapter on a tense cliffhanger.

Ch. 845Seeking Entry into Taichu

Summary

  • Buddhism’s recruitment offer: Bodhisattva Dashizhi offers Chen Nan a way to repair the flaws in his innate Great Dao and promises him the prestigious position of Future Buddha. Sanxiao and Chaofeng warn that Dashizhi lacks the authority to make such a promise. Maitreya then arrives and confirms that he will personally yield the position if Chen Nan joins Buddhism.
  • Chen Nan declines: Recognizing that his path conflicts with Buddhist teachings, Chen Nan respectfully refuses. Maitreya and Dashizhi accept his decision and instead invite the Buddhist cultivators from Chen Nan’s world to join them. Since their traditions align, Green Zen Ancient Buddha and the others agree, hoping to repair their foundations and advance.
  • The new world settles: After Buddhism departs, Sanxiao and Chaofeng recruit native cultivators. Other factions also arrive to establish ties or seek followers. Within half a month, the visitors have left, and the newly arrived Tomb of Gods World is stable in the Primordial Wilderness.
  • Chen Nan’s independent ambition: Chen Zhan recognizes that his son has rejected recruitment because he intends to establish a power of his own, founded on the Tomb of Gods lineage. He supports the plan. Chen Nan argues that their group is strong enough to stand independently, though repairing the flaws in their Great Daos remains urgent. He has allowed other cultivators to join outside sects because they can use those factions’ resources to improve their foundations.
  • A plan to reach Taichu: Chen Nan reveals that the Taichu Realm, created by the Dao Venerable, contains Book Mountain, a repository of teachings on countless Daos, including methods for attaining Primordial Unity. Outsiders are barred from entering directly, unlike those born in the Primordial Wilderness. Chen Nan quietly explains a possible way around this restriction, and Chen Zhan agrees it is worth attempting.
  • Closing development: As father and son plan in secret, the Three Pure Ones enter the Netherworld with Duobao Daoist, concealing their Sage auras.

Character developments and interactions

Chen Nan proves discerning and self-directed: even an extraordinary offer from Buddhism cannot override his commitment to his own Dao and his goal of building an independent faction. Maitreya’s willingness to surrender his office shows how highly Buddhism values Chen Nan, while his decision to recruit Chen Nan’s Buddhist followers instead lets the meeting end without hostility. Chen Zhan shifts from teasing his son to actively supporting his ambitions, and their candid, conspiratorial planning underscores their close father-son bond.

Significant themes

The chapter emphasizes independence versus allegiance, the repair and strengthening of flawed foundations, and the strategic value of knowledge and access. It also highlights the contrast between the power Chen Nan possessed in his home world and his more limited standing in the Primordial Wilderness.

Ch. 846You're so wicked, but I like it

Key plot points and events

  • In the Netherworld, the Three Pure Ones bring Duobao to Houtu and ask to use the Six Paths of Samsara to send him into the Human Realm.
  • Because Duobao has already begun taking on a Buddhist aura, the plan is to use the Samsara Disk’s source power to disguise and erase the traces of his former identity.
  • Houtu warns Duobao that changing paths through reincarnation could destroy his Dao foundation and leave him unable to return to the Primordial Wilderness. Duobao accepts the risk.
  • Duobao enters the Humanity Path, followed by an incarnation of Laozi, who will guide him. Yuanshi says Randeng will also assist secretly, and the Three Sects promise their support.
  • The Samsara Disk conceals both spirits’ origins, making them impossible for even a Sage to identify.
  • Houtu reveals that Buddhism had tried to gain influence over the Netherworld. She welcomes the chance to undermine its ambitions, and the group anticipates the shock of Buddhism’s leaders when they discover the infiltration.

Character developments and interactions

  • Duobao shows firm resolve and gratitude toward Tongtian, insisting he does not blame his master for the hardship that led him to this new path.
  • Tongtian is affectionate but guilt-ridden as Duobao departs; Duobao comforts him and affirms their bond.
  • Houtu begins wary of Tongtian’s friendly approach, but once she understands the scheme, she enthusiastically agrees to help.
  • Laozi and Yuanshi support Duobao’s transition with a guide, covert assistance, and assurances that the Three Sects will protect him.
  • The Three Pure Ones and Houtu share a common resentment of Buddhism’s growing reach, turning their cooperation into a deliberate counter-move.

Significant themes

  • Reinvention and risk: Duobao gives up his established identity and Dao path for a chance at a greater future.
  • Loyalty and sacrifice: Master and disciple part with mutual trust, while allies take practical steps to support Duobao.
  • Secrecy and strategy: Reincarnation becomes a way to conceal identity and infiltrate a rival power.
  • Power and ambition: Buddhism’s foretold rise fuels its expansion—and the resentment and resistance of other factions.

Ch. 847The Six Sages Return Triumphant

Plot points and events

  • After a century, six Sages return through three Outer Realm Passages with victorious armies. Their conquest has brought several Great Thousand Worlds into the Primordial Wilderness, and the returning warriors celebrate their spoils.
  • The Sages’ arrival inspires awe throughout the Primordial Wilderness. Chen Nan and Chen Zhan watch from the East Sea; Chen Nan is struck by how far the Primordial Wilderness surpasses his own world.
  • Chen Nan regains his resolve, telling his father that their people may eventually use those who have taken on the Primordial Wilderness’s mark—and their own paths of the Great Dao—as a bridge to the Taichu Realm.
  • Dao Venerable Xuanxiao summons the Sages and representatives to the Primordial Realm. He reveals that four Great Thousand Worlds have been absorbed. The Witch and Asura Clans will keep the Netherworld world as training grounds; the others must decide who will govern the remaining three.
  • Zhunti claims the western world for Buddhism, provoking an angry response from the White Tiger Clan’s Lord Lingshan, Yuanshi, Nuwa, and Zhenyuanzi. Jieyin apologizes for Zhunti and privately worries that his behavior has changed.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Nan moves from shock at the Sages’ power to renewed determination, encouraged by Chen Zhan, who reminds him that their world is young and they can aspire to similar heights.
  • Zhunti appears unusually presumptuous, demanding territory conquered by others. Jieyin tries to defuse the conflict and recognizes that Zhunti seems less tactful than before.
  • Lord Lingshan openly challenges Buddhism, emboldened by its many rivals and by the White Tiger Clan’s contribution to the campaign. Nuwa, Zhenyuanzi, and Yuanshi reinforce his objection.
  • The Sages and representatives defer to Xuanxiao as he lays out the terms, but the allocation of the conquered worlds quickly exposes tensions among the powers.

Significant themes

  • The scale of power and time: The ancient Primordial Wilderness dwarfs Chen Nan’s world, yet its vast history also gives him perspective and hope.
  • Conquest and reward: The worlds’ absorption brings wealth and opportunity to the victors, while their inhabitants face fear and uncertainty.
  • Power politics and resentment: Claims over conquered territory revive old grievances, especially between Buddhism and the White Tiger Clan.
  • Ambition and changing character: Zhunti’s grasping behavior hints at a shift in his personality and foreshadows deeper conflict.

Ch. 848Even Master Respected the Dao Venerable This Much!

Plot points

  • The factions that conquered three Great Thousand Worlds argue over how to divide or manage them, but every proposal is rejected as self-serving.
  • Xuanxiao ends the dispute by declaring that the worlds will be merged into the Primordial Wilderness and used as training grounds. Visitors will pay resources: 60% goes to the Primordial Wilderness, and 40% is divided among the factions according to their contributions.
  • He reveals that he has already directed the Will of Heaven and Earth to reshape the worlds, saving the factions considerable effort. The representatives accept his ruling and leave.
  • The Three Pure Ones remain behind. Xuanxiao confirms his earlier guidance: “Buddhism shall flourish!”
  • The Three Pure Ones ask for spirit fruit from his orchard. Though exasperated, Xuanxiao gives each of them a portion containing precious fruits and a Great Dao Fruit, then sends them home.
  • Back on Penglai Island, Tongtian celebrates the haul. His disciples observe that he always returns from visiting Xuanxiao in high spirits.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xuanxiao demonstrates authority and practical judgment, settling a quarrel no one else can resolve. Privately, he is weary of inheriting such problems after Hongjun leaves.
  • The Three Pure Ones show deep respect for Xuanxiao, but also comfortable familiarity: they ignore his grumbling and readily ask him for favors.
  • Zhunti and Jieyin worry that the Three Pure Ones might secure Xuanxiao’s intervention, which could outweigh their own contributions.
  • Tongtian’s delight at the gifts reinforces his fondness for visiting Xuanxiao—and his confidence that the visit is worthwhile.

Significant themes

  • Authority and conflict resolution: Xuanxiao’s decision ends factional rivalry where negotiation fails.
  • Fairness and shared benefit: The worlds become a common resource, while contributors still receive a share.
  • Respect mixed with intimacy: The Three Pure Ones honor Xuanxiao’s status but interact with him like indulgent relatives.
  • Power and generosity: Xuanxiao’s influence extends even to the Will of Heaven and Earth, yet he also freely gives away treasures.

Ch. 849Buddhism Sets Its Sights on the Human Realm

Key plot points

  • With rival factions and the returning Demon Race making expansion in the Immortal Realm increasingly difficult, Zhunti proposes shifting Buddhism’s efforts to the Human Realm.
  • Jieyin initially doubts the plan: the Three Sects dominate the Nine Provinces, and the separation of immortals and mortals prevents easy access to the human world.
  • Zhunti reveals that the Four Continents beyond the Nine Provinces are largely untouched by religious groups. They are also drifting away from the Nine Provinces and may eventually become a new realm, offering Buddhism a valuable chance to establish itself early.
  • Jieyin agrees and plans to ask Dizang to assist from the Netherworld by placing Buddhist marks on souls, encouraging an affinity for Buddhism across reincarnations.
  • The Sages find a way to enter the Human Realm, citing Heaven’s favor toward Buddhism. They intend to focus on the Four Continents and avoid the Nine Provinces, where preaching would provoke the Three Sects and humanity.

Character developments and interactions

  • Zhunti shows himself to be strategic and forward-looking, identifying the Four Continents as an overlooked opening for Buddhism. He remains frustrated with Dizang’s refusal to help.
  • Jieyin moves from skepticism to enthusiasm once he understands the Four Continents’ potential. He offers to persuade Dizang, whose respect for his master may make him more cooperative.
  • Dizang, though absent, is presented as a source of tension: his reluctance to spread Buddhism has disappointed Zhunti, but his influence over souls could greatly aid the plan.
  • Jieyin and Zhunti work closely as senior and junior brothers, balancing caution with ambition.

Significant themes

  • Religious expansion and competition: Buddhism seeks new ground as other factions block its growth in the Immortal Realm.
  • Opportunity in political and cosmic change: The separation of immortals and mortals and the possible emergence of a new realm create openings for religious influence.
  • Ambition framed as destiny: Jieyin and Zhunti treat Heaven’s favor as justification for entering the Human Realm and converting its inhabitants.
  • Pragmatic restraint: Buddhism avoids the Nine Provinces to prevent a direct conflict with powerful rivals, targeting instead communities with little ability to resist or oppose it.

Ch. 850Destiny Black Lotus

Plot points and events

  • Jieyin and Zhunti announce that Buddhism will enter the Human Realm to spread its teachings across the Four Continents, then force open a passage that bypasses the Immortal Court.
  • The Eye of Divine Punishment strikes them with crimson lightning. They are badly injured and lose five hundred years of Buddhism’s time as master of destiny, but the sanction allows their emissaries to preach in the Human Realm.
  • The Sages send two phantoms, empowered by Buddhism’s gathered strength, to convert the inhabitants. Their preaching initially fills the Four Continents with Buddhist power and sacred signs.
  • Resistance varies by region:
    • Northern Kuru Continent: The Spirit Religion and Witch Clan protect their territories, limiting Buddhism’s reach.
    • Southern Jambu Continent: The Human Race Destiny Dragon blocks conversion of humans, though they may still study Buddhism; other races are converted.
    • Eastern Divine Continent: Great clans and powers resist the phantoms, while smaller groups either succumb or join willingly.
    • Western Ox Continent: With few major powers to oppose them, most inhabitants convert, making it Buddhism’s strongest foothold.
  • As their power fades, the phantoms merge into a ray of light and settle on a mountain in Western Ox Continent, which becomes Buddhism’s Holy Land, Spirit Mountain.
  • Jieyin and Zhunti sense Buddhism’s destiny rising again, unaware that a black lotus has appeared beneath the Destiny Golden Body and is secretly absorbing that destiny.

Character developments and interactions

  • Jieyin and Zhunti take a bold, costly step to establish Buddhism in the Human Realm. They accept severe punishment and injury, but prioritize the religion’s expansion. Their phantoms preach together, then establish Spirit Mountain as a base.
  • The Human Race Destiny Dragon draws a clear boundary: it protects humans from involuntary conversion without preventing them from learning Buddhist teachings.
  • The Spirit Religion, Witch Clan, and Eastern Divine Continent’s great powers act as collective opponents, shielding their lands or resisting conversion.
  • The new followers respond with reverence as the phantoms fade, while smaller factions in the East make strategic or sincere choices to join Buddhism.
  • The black lotus remains hidden from the Sages, foreshadowing a threat within Buddhism itself.

Significant themes

  • Ambition and sacrifice: Buddhism gains a foothold at great cost, including the loss of five hundred years of destiny.
  • Faith versus coercion: The Sages preach salvation, but their forced conversion contradicts their own teachings.
  • Power and resistance: Buddhism’s success depends on local strength, alliances, and the ability of established powers to defend their domains.
  • Unintended consequences: Buddhism’s rising destiny conceals the growth of a dangerous, parasitic force—the black lotus.

Ch. 851Transmitting the Dharma to the Human Realm, Fierce Beasts Awaken

Plot points and events

  • The Western Sages, Jieyin and Zhunti, continue spreading Buddhism throughout the Human Realm. Yuanshi and other Immortal Realm factions respond by ordering their followers to preach and quietly obstruct Buddhism.
  • Human Realm factions worry about defying Buddhism’s growing power, but the Sages’ teachings and the disciples’ tireless missionary work let Buddhism keep expanding. Its foothold is especially strong in the Western Ox Continent.
  • Direct intervention by Immortal Realm Sages is effectively impossible: the repaired Immortal-Mortal Barrier makes descent difficult, and crossing it risks punishment from the Primordial Wilderness.
  • Xuanxiao turns his attention to the Barren Race, where four elusive Fierce Beasts—Qiongqi, Taotie, Chaos, and Taowu—are sowing discord. They were reborn through the race’s Fierce Beast bloodline and hope to displace it and restore their ancient dynasty.
  • Xuanxiao discovers that an unidentified power is manipulating events behind the beasts. Rather than intervene personally, he sends a message across the Primordial Wilderness, setting others in motion.

Character developments and interactions

  • Yuanshi masks his concern about Buddhism’s rise, treating it as part of a larger plan while ordering a public contest for believers to avoid arousing suspicion.
  • Jieyin and Zhunti remain confident: they expected resistance and regard it as a trial for their disciples.
  • Buddhist disciples show strong faith, interpreting opposition as a test and risking their lives to preach—even into the dangerous Nine Provinces.
  • Xuanxiao demonstrates patience and political insight. He recognizes both the Fierce Beasts’ ambition and the hidden mastermind, but chooses indirect action.
  • Cangming and two other senior Barren Race immortals struggle to contain the four beasts, whose covert influence threatens to divide the clan.

Significant themes

  • Religious expansion and rivalry: Buddhism’s growth provokes resistance from established powers, but its teachings and devoted followers help it endure.
  • Faith tested by adversity: Buddhist disciples treat hardship as a spiritual trial.
  • Hidden schemes and power struggles: The Fierce Beasts’ rebellion is part of a deeper plot, while rival factions pursue concealed agendas.
  • Indirect leadership: Xuanxiao responds to danger through a message rather than taking direct action.

Ch. 852The hunt

Key plot points and events

  • The Ancestral Witches learn that the revived Fierce Beast Kings have begun turning members of the Barren Race into beasts and causing widespread chaos. Rather than intervene themselves, they send ten Great Shamans—including Xing Tian, Xiangliu, and Jiu Feng—to hunt the beasts as a trial for the younger generation.
  • The Three Sects and the Starry Sky Clan also mobilize, drawing the attention of the Immortal Realm’s powers. Because Xuanxiao has sealed the heavenly secrets around Thunder Marsh, outsiders cannot learn what is happening there.
  • Xuandu arrives and breaks through the concealment, finding that the Barren Race is close to splitting into two peoples. The four Fierce Beast Kings remain at large.
  • The Three Sects gather under Xuandu and decide to search in groups, hoping to find the beasts before the other factions. The Starry Sky Clan’s representatives soon enter the territory as well.
  • The Witch Clan arrives last. Jiu Feng suspects rival factions delayed them, but Xiangliu urges the group to stop arguing and begin the hunt.

Character developments and interactions

  • The Ancestral Witches show restraint by assigning the hunt to younger members rather than overpowering their opponents themselves. Shebishi, meanwhile, regrets being barred from fighting—and eating—the fierce beasts.
  • Xuandu takes charge of the Three Sects’ gathering, assesses their relative weakness in top-level strength, and coordinates their search. Zhao Gongming explains that Duobao remains in seclusion under their master’s orders.
  • Jiu Feng is hot-tempered and suspicious of the other factions; Xiangliu acts as the practical voice, pushing the group to focus on the mission.
  • Zhunti and Jieyin initially fear the Witch Clan may be targeting Mount Sumeru, but Jieyin reasons that the deployment is too small for an attack on them.

Significant themes

  • Competition and restraint: The factions race to capture the beasts, while rules against senior figures intervening preserve the contest for younger fighters.
  • Hidden truths and perception: Xuanxiao’s concealment hides the crisis, but Xuandu’s arrival reveals the Barren Race’s devastation.
  • Escalating disorder: The revived beasts’ influence is rapidly dividing the Barren Race, showing how dangerous they remain even shortly after their return.

Ch. 853The Fierce Beasts' Atavism

Key plot points and events

  • The Barren Race is trapped in a crisis: Fierce Beast Kings such as Qiongqi can awaken the race’s ancestral bloodline, turning clanspeople into enormously powerful but mindless beasts who attack indiscriminately.
  • During a battle, Youji undergoes atavism and nearly kills his friend Youhong. Xuandu, Taiyi, Huanglong Zhenren, and Chi Jingzi intervene, defeat the transformed Youji, and save Youhong.
  • Youhong explains the danger to the visitors, who have come at Xuanxiao’s command. Reassured by the Dao Venerable’s involvement, he hopes the Barren Race can be saved.
  • The Starry Sky Clan and Witch Clan also join the search for Qiongqi and the other Fierce Beast Kings, using their respective techniques to track them. Their combined aid begins to ease the Barren Race’s crisis.
  • Outside the territory, other factions speculate about the upheaval, but an invisible barrier—apparently erected by Xuanxiao—prevents anyone from entering.

Character developments and interactions

  • Youhong hesitates to kill his transformed friend, allowing Youji to gain the advantage. After Youji is slain, Youhong grieves for him and fears that he, too, may lose himself to atavism.
  • The four Dao Venerable Lineage disciples recognize the threat’s seriousness. Taiyi, Huanglong, and Chi Jingzi reflect on the Fierce Beast Clan’s ancient power, while Xuandu focuses them on protecting the Barren Race.
  • Youhong and Xuandu establish trust when Xuandu explains their mission and promises help on Xuanxiao’s behalf.
  • The Starry Sky Clan and Witch Clan cooperate in the broader effort, searching separately for the beast kings.

Significant themes

  • The cost of bloodline power: Atavism grants strength but destroys identity and reason.
  • Friendship versus survival: Youhong’s love for Youji makes it difficult to fight, even when his friend has become a deadly threat.
  • Fear and collective vulnerability: Every Barren Race member could be next to transform, leaving the entire people at risk.
  • Cooperation against catastrophe: The crisis begins to turn only when outside factions join forces.

Ch. 854Thinking? No need—we're here to capture you!

Plot points and events

  • The four surviving Fierce Beast Kings—Qiongqi, Taotie, Taowu, and Chaos—meet in hiding and compare how badly they are being hunted. Taotie is pursued by the Three Sects, Taowu by the Starry Sky Clan, and Chaos by powerful Witch Clan members. Qiongqi’s hiding place is also being searched by the Barren Race.
  • Xuandu and allies from the Chan and Jie Sects suddenly appear, having tracked the beasts through Taotie’s aura after he went to prey on the Barren Race.
  • The four beasts flee in different directions but strike invisible barriers: the area has been prepared as a trap. Xuandu urges them to surrender and face judgment before the Dao Sovereign, but they refuse.
  • Qiongqi attacks Sanxiao’s group and is lured into the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation. Taowu engages Holy Mothers Jinling and Wudang, while Taotie and Chaos fight Xuandu and the remaining forces.
  • The beasts recognize that defeating defenders at any one of the formation’s four corners could break the trap. A fierce battle follows, with neither side gaining the advantage. Xuandu worries that the fighting will attract other forces and cost his group the capture.

Character developments and interactions

  • The beasts’ conversation reveals their growing desperation: once rulers of the Primordial Wilderness, they are now isolated fugitives with few safe options.
  • Qiongqi acts as their leader, trying to assess their predicament, but pride drives him to charge into a formation he senses is dangerous.
  • Taotie’s hunger and raids inadvertently expose the group’s hiding place.
  • Xuandu remains composed and strategic, while his allies coordinate to divide and contain the four beasts. Bixiao taunts Qiongqi into entering the formation; Zhao Gongming then leaves the beast to Sanxiao’s group.
  • Taowu dismisses Jinling and Wudang as inexperienced, while the beasts as a whole fight with fierce determination rather than submit.

Significant themes

  • Decline and survival: The once-dominant Fierce Beast Clan has been reduced to hunted fugitives.
  • Pride and peril: Qiongqi’s status and pride overcome his caution, drawing him into a likely dangerous trap.
  • Strategy versus brute force: The hunters use tracking, barriers, formations, and coordinated matchups to counter the beasts’ physical power.
  • Competition for credit: Xuandu fears that arriving forces may claim the capture, adding urgency to an already difficult battle.

Ch. 855The Beast Emperor Breaks Free

Plot points and events

  • Taotie triggers a wave of madness among the Barren Race, controlling countless members—and even three Primordial Origin Golden Immortals—to attack their own people.
  • Cangming and the other Barren Race leaders turn back to contain the slaughter. Xuandu, Zhenwu, Xing Tian, and their allies remain focused on capturing the four Fierce Beast Kings: Qiongqi, Taotie, Chaos, and the fourth beast.
  • The rival groups argue over who should claim the beasts, then agree that the strongest side will take them. The four beasts, badly wounded and nearly out of time, prepare to use the Savage Qi and blood they have gathered.
  • Their accumulated Savage Qi flows into a blood bead, breaking its seal and revealing a hidden world filled with Fierce Beasts, including more than ten Primordial Origin Golden Immortals.
  • The freed prisoner identifies himself as Beast Emperor Lunhui, a long-missing ruler and strategist of the Fierce Beast Clan. A towering figure then destroys the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation, rescues the four beasts, and escapes with Lunhui’s bead.
  • Xuandu and the others recognize the rescuer as Shen Ni. They fear the consequences of failing their mission, but an unexpected voice reassures them that Shen Ni is beyond their power and promises to handle what comes next.

Character developments and interactions

  • Taotie resorts to controlling the Barren Race to buy time, escalating the conflict and exposing how desperate the beasts have become.
  • Qiongqi remains composed despite the group’s injuries and reveals that their apparent setbacks were part of a plan to free Lunhui.
  • Xuandu, Zhenwu, and Xing Tian treat the beasts as prizes and compete over them, underestimating the purpose behind the beasts’ actions. Once Shen Ni intervenes, their confidence gives way to alarm and regret.
  • Cangming and the Barren Race leaders prioritize saving their people over joining the fight against the beasts.
  • Lunhui’s release restores a powerful figure to the Fierce Beast Clan, while Shen Ni’s rescue shows that the beasts had powerful allies waiting beyond the battlefield.

Significant themes

  • Deception and hidden plans: The apparent struggle over the four beasts conceals their real objective: breaking Lunhui’s seal.
  • Power and hubris: The rival factions assume they control the outcome, only to be outmatched by Shen Ni.
  • Sacrifice and collateral damage: The beasts’ scheme depends on Savage Qi and blood gathered through the Barren Race’s suffering.
  • The return of ancient forces: Lunhui’s liberation signals that the Fierce Beast Clan’s old power may once again threaten the present.

Ch. 856Big Brother, Are You Sure You're Not Joking?

Key plot points and events

  • Xuanxiao reassures Xuandu and the others that their failed hunt was not their fault: they drew out Shen Ni and the Reincarnation Beast Emperor. He rewards them with Great Dao Pills, rare treasures that aid cultivation and comprehension of the Great Dao.
  • The group returns home, while Xuanxiao goes to confront the two Beast Emperors.
  • Shen Ni and the Reincarnation Beast Emperor reunite. The Reincarnation Beast Emperor explains that the Heavenly Dao—not Hongjun alone—was responsible for sealing their clan, using Hongjun and the others as instruments.
  • He urges Shen Ni to abandon revenge and focus on survival. Shen Ni agrees, pointing out how dramatically the Primordial Wilderness has changed: thousands of Primordial Origin Golden Immortals, more than twenty beings who have attained the Dao, and a powerful Dao Venerable who commands even Hongjun’s and Luohu’s respect.
  • As the Beast Emperors prepare to flee, Xuanxiao appears and freezes space, blocking their escape. He claims that Hongjun and Luohu have, in a sense, submitted to him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xuanxiao shows both generosity and confidence. He rewards his disciples while preserving his own uncertainty for enjoyment, then confronts Shen Ni and the Reincarnation Beast Emperor directly.
  • Shen Ni shifts from anger over the clan’s betrayal to bitter resignation, recognizing that revenge against the present-day Primordial Wilderness would be hopeless.
  • The Reincarnation Beast Emperor (Lunhui) is more reflective than Shen Ni. He questions their old assumptions, reveals the Heavenly Dao’s role in their downfall, and tries to steer his brother toward survival.
  • Their reunion is affectionate, but Lunhui’s shock at the world’s immense changes leaves him disoriented. His incredulous question about whether Shen Ni is joking sets up Xuanxiao’s sudden entrance.

Significant themes

  • Power and changing eras: The once-dominant Beast Emperors have returned to a world where countless powerful beings surpass their former expectations.
  • Fate, responsibility, and revenge: The Heavenly Dao’s manipulation complicates the history of the clan’s defeat, but Lunhui argues that their own path was doomed to conflict with the world.
  • Humility before greater power: Shen Ni and Lunhui’s attempted escape is swiftly stopped, underscoring the gap between them and Xuanxiao.

Ch. 857A slap, then a sweet date

Plot points and events

  • Xuanxiao confronts Shen Ni, Lunhui, and the four Fierce Beast leaders after they escape confinement. He reveals that their apparent success was allowed: the Primordial Wilderness and its powers had not taken them seriously, and Xuanxiao had protected the Barren Race from outside scrutiny.
  • Shen Ni realizes their plan could never have succeeded against Xuanxiao’s power. Xuanxiao’s overwhelming aura forces the group to their knees, confirming the gap between them and a Primordial Daluo Golden Immortal.
  • Xuanxiao explains that the Karma Demon God and other Innate Divine Beings recently attacked the Primordial Wilderness and were suppressed. Others from that former alliance remain hidden in Chaos.
  • He orders Shen Ni’s group to contact those old allies and bring them back to the Primordial Wilderness. They agree outwardly, though they secretly resent the assignment and would rather avoid returning.
  • Xuanxiao places a mark on each of them, giving him control over their lives while also claiming it can protect them. He then offers a hundred Great Dao Pills and promises the possibility of reaching Primordial Unity if they serve him.
  • The group leaves for Chaos. Xuanxiao then wonders how Ancestral Dragon and his companions are faring, before sensing that the Primordial Wilderness has absorbed recent gains well and returning there.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shen Ni shifts from confidence in his escape plan to reluctant submission. He recognizes Xuanxiao’s superiority, hides his true intentions, and accepts both the binding mark and the reward.
  • Lunhui and the four beasts share Shen Ni’s fear, anger, and constrained obedience.
  • Xuanxiao demonstrates strategic patience: he combines force and surveillance with incentives, using the marks to ensure compliance and the pills to motivate cooperation.
  • The group’s relationship with Xuanxiao is defined by fear and distrust, tempered by the promise of advancement. Their former alliance with the hidden beings in Chaos conflicts with their new obligation.

Significant themes

  • Power and control: Xuanxiao’s dominance makes resistance impossible, while the marks turn obedience into a matter of survival.
  • Strategic patience and manipulation: The escape was permitted as part of Xuanxiao’s larger plan.
  • Coercion balanced with reward: Xuanxiao’s “slap, then a sweet date” approach pairs threats with valuable cultivation resources.
  • Changing loyalties: The former Fierce Beast allies may abandon old loyalties for security and the chance to attain the Dao.

Ch. 858Earth Immortal Realm

Key plot points and events

  • The Primordial Wilderness undergoes a major transformation: its Four Continents rise into the void, merge with scattered lands and worlds, and form a new realm between the Human Realm and the Immortal Realm—the Earth Immortal Realm.
  • The Human Realm also expands around the Nine Provinces, absorbing many Small Thousand Worlds as orbiting planets. The world is now divided into four distinct realms: the Immortal Realm, Earth Immortal Realm, Mortal Realm, and Underworld.
  • The Earth Immortal Realm becomes a bridge between immortals and mortals. It can sustain beings up to the Primordial Unity Golden Immortal level; higher beings can enter only through projections. Its spiritual energy supports a path of cultivation, though only a few grotto-heavens retain innate spiritual energy.
  • The Mortal Realm becomes spiritually impoverished, making cultivation difficult. Travel between it and the Earth Immortal Realm is possible through teleportation passages, but mortals who become immortals can rarely return.
  • Xuanxiao visits the Mortal Realm and recognizes it as the universe from his distant memories. He recreates its blue planet, sun, and Solar System.
  • Time flows at sharply different rates: it is the same in the Immortal and Underworld Realms, ten times faster in the Earth Immortal Realm than in those realms, and ten thousand times faster in the Mortal Realm than in the Earth Immortal Realm.

Character development and interactions

  • Xuanxiao understands the transformation and has helped shape the new order, including its time differences. His creation of the familiar Solar System brings out his nostalgia, while his acceptance of the Mortal Realm’s hardships reflects his broader concern for the Primordial Wilderness.
  • Immortals and cultivators witness the new realm’s formation with awe and recognize that the order of the Three Realms is changing. The passage offers little direct dialogue; interactions are mainly between Xuanxiao and the world he has helped arrange.

Significant themes

  • Order through division: Separating mortal life, cultivation, heavenly authority, and reincarnation gives each realm a distinct function.
  • Protection through sacrifice: The Mortal Realm’s rapid cycles of life and death consume Savage Qi and help lessen the force of calamities; the Earth Immortal Realm absorbs the devastation of conflict.
  • Nostalgia and creation: Xuanxiao’s recreation of the universe from memory links cosmic world-building to personal remembrance.
  • A managed cycle of risk: The Earth Immortal Realm serves as both a proving ground for cultivators and a buffer protecting the wider Primordial Wilderness.

Ch. 859Blue Star

Key plot points and events

  • Xuanxiao watches the newly created Blue Star develop, choosing not to create life directly. Instead, he gives it genetic material inspired by creatures of the Primordial Wilderness, embedding traces of that world in the life to come.
  • He accelerates the Solar System’s passage of time and observes life emerge and evolve—from microorganisms through complex marine and land animals—without intervening in mass extinctions.
  • An asteroid strikes Blue Star, causing catastrophic destruction. Xuanxiao recognizes that the event mirrors his own memories and realizes that, in shaping the world, he has helped make it follow his will.
  • Watching life’s cycles awakens Xuanxiao’s dormant Great Dao. He understands more deeply Pangu’s claim that the Primordial Wilderness itself was his Dao and a source of profound insight.
  • As mammals emerge, Xuanxiao stops accelerating time and begins meditating, sensing an imminent breakthrough. His Dao resonance spreads across the Three Realms.
  • The resonance grants widespread enlightenment and breakthroughs. Humans in the Nine Provinces benefit especially, with many advancing to the Immortal Realm and perceiving Dao bodies. Meanwhile, beings from other realms cannot cross the barriers to reach the resonance’s strongest point.
  • The chapter ends by foreshadowing a new being, born in the Buddhist lands of the Western Ox Continent through the influence of Xuanxiao’s resonance. This being is destined to change Buddhism’s future.

Character developments

  • Xuanxiao moves from detached observation toward a deeper understanding of his own Dao. He recognizes the link between his will, Blue Star’s evolution, and the fate that shaped its history. Despite his immense power, he lets nature and catastrophe unfold.
  • Humanity gains dramatically in strength and prominence through the resonance, though it is more a collective transformation than individual character development.
  • Buddhism is established as the dominant power in the Earth Immortal Realm, but the coming birth hints that its future may change.

Significant themes

  • Creation and noninterference: Xuanxiao guides life’s beginnings but allows evolution and extinction to proceed on their own.
  • Fate and will: Blue Star repeats a history familiar to Xuanxiao because his memories and ideas have shaped its course.
  • Destruction as renewal: Mass extinctions devastate life but also create conditions for new forms to emerge.
  • The Dao through observation: Witnessing an ordinary world’s cycles gives Xuanxiao insight into how a created realm can nourish its creator’s understanding.
  • Unequal access to opportunity: The resonance reaches all realms, but barriers mean some beings—especially humanity—benefit more than others.

Character interactions

  • Xuanxiao has no direct conversations with other characters. His central interaction is with Blue Star: he seeds its potential, observes its evolution, and ultimately leaves it to develop independently.
  • The resonance indirectly affects beings throughout the Three Realms, especially the humans of the Nine Provinces, while provoking envy among other powers.
  • The final foreshadowing links Xuanxiao’s enlightenment to Buddhism’s future through the birth of a new being.

Ch. 860Shakyamuni

Plot points and events

  • Shakyamuni is born in the Western Ox Continent amid extraordinary Buddhist signs: Buddha-light, celestial flowers, and golden lotuses. His first words proclaim his supremacy beneath heaven and above earth.
  • Buddhism’s leaders initially suspect his appearance may be a rival faction’s plot, but Amitabha Buddha’s investigation and divination find no deception. They conclude Shakyamuni’s birth signals Buddhism’s future resurgence, linked to Xuanxiao’s lingering Dao resonance.
  • After Xuanxiao’s breakthrough resonance fades, Buddhism sends Randeng, the Past Buddha, to teach Shakyamuni. The child advances astonishingly quickly, reaching the Golden Immortal realm in just twenty years.
  • Buddhism names him its chosen child and plans for him to become the joint disciple of the Sages Jieyin and Zhunti once he reaches the Daluo Golden Immortal realm. To protect him, Buddhism conceals news of his talent.
  • Shakyamuni then remains stuck at Golden Immortal for ten thousand years. Randeng, Yaoshi, and Maitreya all try to guide him, but none can help him advance.
  • Shakyamuni calmly says, “The destined moment has not yet come.” Jieyin and Zhunti reassure Buddhism that his stagnation is not sabotage. Though many Buddhist followers lose interest, the chapter ends by suggesting Shakyamuni is waiting for the moment when he will rise and shake the Three Realms.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shakyamuni moves from miraculous infant to prodigy, then to an apparently stalled disciple. Unlike the anxious Buddhists around him, he remains serene and seems to understand that his progress depends on a future destined opportunity.
  • Randeng becomes Shakyamuni’s first teacher, guiding his rapid early cultivation. Yaoshi and Maitreya later join him, but their combined instruction cannot break Shakyamuni’s impasse.
  • Buddhism’s leadership shifts from suspicion and excitement to alarm, then reassurance. The Three Buddhas worry over Shakyamuni’s lack of progress, while Jieyin and Zhunti interpret it as evidence that he is not the target of a plot.

Significant themes

  • Destiny and timing: Shakyamuni’s apparent failure may be a necessary pause before his destined rise.
  • Faith tested by results: Buddhism’s confidence in him weakens when visible progress stops, despite his earlier miracles.
  • Hidden potential and appearances: Shakyamuni’s stillness may conceal a deeper understanding, while the others mistake lack of advancement for lack of promise.
  • Fortune and religious ambition: Buddhism sees Shakyamuni as the key to its future revival and seeks to protect and cultivate him accordingly.
