Ch. 241Corpse Army

Xu Changshou's group found evidence that a Corpse Army had attacked the village, then camped and began burning the corpses before nightfall. Qin He discovered that Corpse Worms caused the corpses to reanimate, subdued one with a Corpse Suppressing Nail, and heard a suspicious rustling nearby as night began.

  • The group saw footprints and claw marks showing that a Corpse Army had attacked the village, and Qin He assured them they would return safely.
  • Wei Wu organized the camp, assigning Dou Lao Liu's soldiers to clear bodies and the Flying Fish Guard to patrol while the Corpse Burning officials prepared their equipment.
  • Qin He moved his Corpse Burning Furnace into a house and selected a corpse with long black hair for burning.
  • Qin He identified Corpse Worms, rather than Corpse Poison, as the cause of the corpse's reanimation and pinned it down with a Corpse Suppressing Nail.
  • After the burning began, Qin He heard faint rustling nearby through his Wind-Following Ear.

Ch. 242Wei Wu Loses His Temper

A Black-Haired Corpse Monster attacked the camp, but a bolt of lightning killed it and its remains vanished. Wei Wu suspected Qin He was behind the lightning and assigned him more corpse-burning work, giving Qin He the chance to burn many more corpses.

  • Dou Lao Liu fought the Black-Haired Corpse Monster with an axe and hammer, but it wounded him and forced him to flee.
  • A bolt of lightning struck the monster dead, and its remains disappeared before Wei Wu and Chang Wen arrived.
  • Dou Lao Liu told Wei Wu that the monster had been struck by lightning and vanished, and Wei Wu suspected Great Immortal Green Ox had intervened.
  • Wei Wu found Qin He burning corpses inside a house and scolded him for working outside the Soul-Capturing Lamp's light.
  • When Qin He welcomed the extra work, Wei Wu ordered Wei Yuanji to bring him the spare Corpse Burning Furnaces and all unassigned corpses.

Ch. 243Savage Ox Strength

Qin He burned a batch of corpses and gained Savage Ox Strength, a powerful fourth-grade cultivation art. He told the corpse burners that Great Immortal Green Ox had taught him to suppress corpses, then went to Wei Wu seeking more bodies to burn.

  • Qin He burned seven corpses with Big Turtle’s help, and the first Black-Haired Corpse Monster yielded the Savage Ox Strength cultivation art.
  • Qin He mastered Savage Ox Strength and demonstrated its immense power by breaking a Bone Shattering Hammer’s head with his fingers.
  • Qin He told the curious corpse burners that Great Immortal Green Ox had taught him the Corpse Suppressing Great Law in a dream.
  • Qin He encouraged the corpse burners to pray to Great Immortal Green Ox, then carried the ashes to Wei Wu and asked for more corpses.

Ch. 244Five More Corpses

Qin He collected five more corpses and worked with Big Turtle to burn them, earning a variety of rewards. After the cremation camp fell asleep, Qin He slipped out through the roof as a nearly invisible shadow.

  • Wei Wu ordered Wei Yuanji to give Qin He all the dead soldiers’ bodies, then told Wei Yuanji to make Qin He regret disrespecting him within three days.
  • Wei Yuanji promised to watch Qin He and left to make his rounds.
  • Qin He returned to the Corpse Burners’ area with five corpses from the Black-Haired Corpse Monster’s ambush.
  • Qin He and Big Turtle worked together to burn the corpses, and Qin He received techniques, pills, fruits, and gains in internal strength and cultivation.
  • After most of the camp went to sleep, Qin He became a faint shadow and slipped out through the hole in the roof.

Ch. 245Flying Corpse King

The old woman awakened the Flying Corpse King and sent it to investigate the severed aura of a zombie seed. At the corpse-burning camp, rumors spread that many people had dreamed of Great Immortal Green Ox, while Qin He and Dou Lao Liu had gained extraordinary benefits from his teachings.

  • The old woman fed green mist from several dozen corpses to the thing inside the swollen sac, dissolving the corpses in the process.
  • The old woman summoned the Flying Corpse King, and a patterned crimson centipede entered a powerful hopping zombie, transforming it into an intelligent, winged Flying Zombie.
  • The old woman ordered the Flying Zombie to investigate a zombie seed whose aura had been cut off a hundred li away, and it flew from the manor.
  • At dawn, Corpse Burners at the camp began sharing that they had dreamed of Great Immortal Green Ox seeking someone sincere and fated to receive his teachings.
  • The camp learned that Qin He had burned more than a dozen corpses after receiving teachings from Great Immortal Green Ox and that Dou Lao Liu had learned Savage Ox Strength and uprooted a poplar tree.

Ch. 246Great Immortal Imparts His Teachings

After Great Immortal Green Ox appeared in many soldiers’ dreams and imparted powerful techniques, Wei Wu struggled to accept that the wanted figure might truly be an immortal. He left the camp refusing to worship, even as the Great Immortal’s influence spread among the troops.

  • Wei Yuanji woke Wei Wu and told him that many people had dreamed of Great Immortal Green Ox imparting teachings.
  • Dou Lao Liu demonstrated his newfound Savage Ox Strength by uprooting a thick poplar tree.
  • Wei Yuanji told Wei Wu that Qin He had also received a Corpse Suppressing Great Law from Great Immortal Green Ox.
  • Wei Wu and Wei Yuanji found Chang Wen and the Flying Fish Guards worshipping a statue of Great Immortal Green Ox, and Chang Wen praised the teachings he had received.
  • Wei Yuanji said he wanted to worship, but Wei Wu dragged him away and swore he would never worship Great Immortal Green Ox.

Ch. 247Next Stop

Qin He watched Chang Wen organize a mass worship of Great Immortal Green Ox, realizing the ritual could earn Merit as well as spend it. The convoy reached Riverside Town to deal with two battle graveyards, and the first corpse emerged after nightfall.

  • Chang Wen gathered the people who had dreamed of Great Immortal Green Ox and urged everyone to worship and make vows.
  • Chang Wen sent for Dou Lao Liu, who arrived with three hundred men.
  • Qin He realized that the Teaching and Enlightening Technique could accumulate Merit through worship.
  • Wei Wu announced the convoy’s departure for Riverside Town, where the Imperial Army had defeated the White Lotus Army.
  • The convoy set up camp beside the disturbed burial grounds, and the first corpse crawled out of the burial pit after nightfall.

Ch. 248Postpartum Care for Sows

Qin He burned batches of battlefield corpses, collecting a bottle of Qi Strengthening Pills and the useless skill “Postpartum Care for Sows.” After the Walking Corpses stopped appearing, a ghost frightened the workers at midnight.

  • Qin He collected six Walking Corpses from the Flying Fish Guards and burned them in a brick kiln with Big Turtle’s help.
  • Qin He began selecting the more vicious-looking corpses as the Flying Fish Guards brought them past.
  • Qin He finished the first batch and received the skill “Postpartum Care for Sows” and ten Qi Strengthening Pills.
  • Qin He ate one Qi Strengthening Pill, found it had little effect, and started burning a second batch of corpses.
  • As the number of Walking Corpses dwindled around midnight, someone screamed that a ghost had appeared.

Ch. 249Supernatural Incident

A supernatural attack killed five men in the woods between the graveyards, and Chang Wen led everyone away rather than risk collecting the bodies. Qin He examined the grisly scene, identified signs of a powerful soul-devouring ghost, and began gathering the corpses for himself.

  • A shrill scream and unnatural cold drew Wei Wu, Wei Yuanji, and Chang Wen toward the hill between the graveyards.
  • Foreman Ding reported that five men had died with their throats slit, and led the group into the woods.
  • Chang Wen and the others found the five men kneeling with their severed heads in their hands, flames burning on their crowns.
  • Chang Wen ordered everyone to withdraw and return at dawn, despite one of the victims being his subordinate.
  • Qin He emerged after the group left and used the Qi Gazing Technique to spot Soul Qi bound in the blood pattern, concluding that a formidable soul-devouring ghost had bewitched the victims.
  • Qin He shook out his yellow cloth sack and began collecting the corpses.

Ch. 250Spirit Sacrifice Incident

Chang Wen told Wei Wu and Wei Yuanji that the graveyard ritual matched the escaped Rank-A Spirit Sacrifice from the Sifang Town Incident, leaving the camp afraid the creature might target them. At the Brick Kiln, Qin He repaired the five corpses and resented the Spirit Sacrifice for consuming the souls of potential believers; then someone knocked at the door.

  • Chang Wen identified the graveyard ritual as the work of the Spirit Sacrifice, a Rank-A case file that had escaped capture ten years earlier.
  • Chang Wen warned Wei Wu and Wei Yuanji that anyone who touched the offerings would die first, and said fleeing would not help if the creature had targeted them.
  • Wei Yuanji prayed to Great Immortal Green Ox, causing Chang Wen to brighten and Wei Wu to stiffen.
  • Qin He repaired the severed heads of the five corpses at the Brick Kiln and vowed to deal with the Spirit Sacrifice if it appeared.
  • Someone knocked on the Brick Kiln's door.

Ch. 251Soul Manifestation

The Spirit Sacrifice infiltrated the camp, controlled four Flying Fish Guards with its Illusion Technique, and followed a faint trace of Soul Qi to the Brick Kiln. It found an unfamiliar soul whose fixation centered on female teachers, then appeared before Qin He disguised as Teacher Ozawa.

  • The Spirit Sacrifice followed the corpse's Soul Qi into the camp and used its Illusion Technique to send four Flying Fish Guards toward Mountain Lin.
  • The Spirit Sacrifice planned to drain the souls of the camp's more than three hundred men to recover its strength.
  • At the Brick Kiln, the Spirit Sacrifice sensed faint Soul Qi and saw strange scenes from a soul, including modern roads, self-moving vehicles, and female teachers.
  • The Spirit Sacrifice decided to use a female teacher as a fixation and went to the Brick Kiln.
  • A woman dressed like Teacher Ozawa entered the Brick Kiln, and Qin He recognized her in shock.

Ch. 252Water-and-Fire Illusion Realm

Qin He resisted a vicious spirit’s powerful illusion and broke it with the Lingyun Scripture. After marking the fleeing spirit, he set out with the Little Calf to chase it.

  • Qin He recognized that the teacher and the lessons were an illusion, though the spirit had cut him off from his body.
  • Qin He endured the spirit’s drowning and blazing-furnace illusions without succumbing to their effects.
  • Qin He chanted the Lingyun Scripture, breaking the illusion and forcing the vicious spirit to flee.
  • Big Turtle asked Qin He what had happened, and Qin He told it he would explain later.
  • Qin He marked the fleeing spirit, shouldered the Great Iron Shovel, woke the Little Calf, and went after it.

Ch. 253One Chases, One Flees

Qin He and the Little Calf pursued the Spirit Sacrifice, whose spirit flashes and near-collapse failed to shake them off. Qin He followed it into a city and reached the City God's Mansion, where powerful Yin Energy confronted them.

  • The Little Calf raced after the Spirit Sacrifice while Qin He tracked its location.
  • The Spirit Sacrifice used Spirit Flash to evade Qin He's Corpse Suppressing Nails and a bolt from the Beginner Lightning Strike Technique, but Heavenly Might badly weakened it.
  • Qin He noticed the Spirit Sacrifice had a shadow and decided to capture it intact to see whether burning it would earn a reward.
  • The Spirit Sacrifice fled into a city, and the Little Calf vaulted over the wall as Night Patrol soldiers watched in shock.
  • Qin He followed the Spirit Sacrifice to the City God's Mansion, where a powerful wave of Yin Energy rushed toward them.

Ch. 254City God's Department

Qin He tracked an Evil Spirit to the City God's Department and confronted its City God, who claimed the spirit had already been captured. Qin He accused the City God of sheltering it and prepared to fight after learning his name was Ling Tianheng.

  • Qin He stopped Little Calf from charging into the City God Temple when a Yin Official emerged.
  • Qin He recognized the man as the City God and observed the rest of the City God's Department come out behind him.
  • Qin He identified himself as a Flying Fish Guard pursuing an Evil Spirit, but the City God claimed it had been captured and ordered him to leave.
  • Qin He suspected the City God was protecting the Evil Spirit and challenged him to give his name.
  • Ling Tianheng introduced himself as chief officer of the Pingyuan Provincial City God's Department, and Qin He said he needed to know whom he was about to beat.

Ch. 255Shovel Shadows

Qin He attacked the City God and its judges after they refused to hand over the evil spirit. He overwhelmed them at the temple, leaving the City God, Civil Judge, and Martial Judge beaten beneath his shovel.

  • The Civil Judge and Martial Judge threatened Qin He and refused to explain why they were shielding the evil spirit hiding behind the temple gate.
  • Qin He smashed the temple entrance with the Big Black Shovel, sending the ghost constables and both judges flying.
  • Qin He charged the City God and battered its command token until it shattered.
  • The City God revealed its Fierce Ghost form and attacked, but Qin He seized its claw and repeatedly slammed it into the ground.
  • The City God crashed into the Civil Judge and Martial Judge, knocking them down, and Qin He continued striking all three while taunting them.

Ch. 256Immortal Binding Rope

Qin He beat Ling Tianheng and the other Yin Gods at the City God Temple, captured the Sacrificial Spirit, and returned to the Brick Kiln to burn it. The Sacrificial Spirit warned him that Ling Tianheng was a trusted confidant of Commander Ma of the Horse-Face Bureau.

  • Qin He and Little Calf wrecked much of the City God Temple while beating the Yin Gods and ghost messengers.
  • Qin He bound the fleeing Sacrificial Spirit with the Immortal Binding Rope and carried it away on Little Calf.
  • Ling Tianheng demanded Qin He's name, and Qin called himself Great Immortal Green Ox before leaving the City God Temple.
  • Qin He brought the Sacrificial Spirit to the Brick Kiln and prepared to burn it using Peach Wood.
  • The Sacrificial Spirit warned Qin He that Ling Tianheng was Commander Ma's trusted confidant and threatened him with underworld punishment.

Ch. 257Spirit of Sacrifice

Qin He refused the Spirit Sacrifice’s pleas and burned it in the Corpse Burning Furnace. The Shadow Play Performance then revealed that the Spirit Sacrifice had been born from the accumulated Resentful Energy and Malevolent Energy of a Ghost Fang altar.

  • The Spirit Sacrifice warned Qin He that harming Commander Ma would bring retaliation from the underworld, but Qin He remained unmoved.
  • The Spirit Sacrifice offered to become Qin He’s ghost servant, but Qin He refused and lit the furnace.
  • The furnace’s blue flames consumed the Spirit Sacrifice, which burst into blue specks and vanished.
  • The Shadow Play Performance showed that the Spirit Sacrifice had formed over a century from the energy gathered at a Ghost Fang altar where living people were sacrificed.

Ch. 258Spirit Sacrifice's Passage Onward

Spirit Sacrifice recounted its centuries of killing, evading hunters, and surviving in the ghostly world before Qin He finally cornered it. It also emerged that City God Ling Tianheng had sheltered it to build his power, while Qin He remained indifferent to the underworld’s turmoil as long as it did not interfere with his work.

  • Spirit Sacrifice grew powerful through its illusion technique and became notorious for luring people to their deaths and devouring their souls.
  • It increased the scale of its killings, eventually drawing the Flying Fish Guard and major holy lands to hunt it.
  • At Sifang Town, five groups of experts trapped Spirit Sacrifice in the Evil-Extermination Formation after it devoured more than four hundred souls, but it escaped and recovered in a place of extreme yin.
  • After Spirit Sacrifice resumed hunting, Qin He came after its first meal, and it realized that not even the City God could protect it.
  • The account revealed that City God Ling Tianheng had sheltered Spirit Sacrifice to recruit troops and expand his power.
  • Qin He ignored the underworld’s political turmoil and focused on burning corpses, warning that anyone who interfered would face him.

Ch. 259Merit Soul Art

Qin He used the Merit Soul Art to forge a first-grade Merit Golden Soul, greatly strengthening his soul. After demonstrating its power to Big Turtle, he left to find more merit and planned to cultivate the Corpse Burning Team.

  • Qin He learned the Merit Soul Art and spent more than forty thousand merit to cultivate his soul.
  • A first-grade Merit Golden Soul took shape in Qin He's mud palace, then emerged from his body and displayed its strength.
  • Big Turtle witnessed the golden soul and asked Qin He about it; Qin He confirmed he had achieved a little success.
  • Qin He told Big Turtle to burn the corpses and left, deciding to use the Corpse Burning Team to help him gain more merit.

Ch. 260Paying Homage to the Great Immortal

Wei Wu woke from a nightmare to learn that Wei Yuanji had broken through to ten years of inner strength after dreaming of Great Immortal Green Ox and receiving an Inner Strength Pill. As the camp flocked to worship the immortal, Wei Wu refused to join them, but Wei Yuanji ran off to worship despite his cousin’s threat.

  • Wei Yuanji excitedly told Wei Wu that Great Immortal Green Ox had given him an Inner Strength Pill in a dream, letting him break through the ten-year threshold.
  • Wei Wu reacted angrily to Wei Yuanji’s faith in the immortal and forbade him from worshipping.
  • The camp celebrated as more than ten people reported dream teachings, breakthroughs, techniques, or Inner Strength Pills from Great Immortal Green Ox.
  • Wei Wu watched as nearly everyone in the camp lined up to worship instead of preparing breakfast or packing to leave.
  • Wei Yuanji ignored Wei Wu’s threat to disown him and raced to Chang Wen’s tent to worship Great Immortal Green Ox.
