Suppression
"Kabane! It's a Kabane!"
The Kabane bound in chains lunged outward, but the prepared Samurai had already aimed their guns at the gaunt Kabane.
"Purify the six roots!"
Amid their unified battle cry, gunfire erupted.
The once-unbeatable Kabane took several shots, its heart destroyed, and collapsed to the ground without suspense, losing all vitality.
Once the Kabane's formidable protection—its stamina far beyond human limits and its heart membrane's defensive power—had been stripped away, its mindless, rigid behavior pattern was fully exposed.
Aside from Guts with unique abilities, once the Samurai possessed weapons capable of piercing the metal membrane, the Kabane's threat was drastically reduced so long as their numbers did not form a swarm.
And scenes like this were unfolding in many places throughout Kōkan Station.
The patrolling Samurai had never expected that Kabane were truly lurking within the city!
Moreover, the fact that they were bound in chains made it obvious that someone had done this deliberately.
Fortunately, most of the discovered Kabane had already been restrained. With the new weapons, they were steadily exterminated.
Otherwise, if they had broken out all at once, the trouble would have been enormous...
"Damn it! Just one more day! The number of Kabane would have built up to its peak and burst out all at once, yet such a mistake happened!"
After learning that Kabane were being dragged out and killed one after another, Lone Wolf's expression turned extremely ugly.
They had even hardened their hearts and accepted the space's point deductions to turn some newcomers into Kabane. At the same time, they had selected lonely elderly people with no relatives. Yet just as they were about to reap the rewards, this happened!
"I told you we should have quit while we were ahead and released them sooner. We could have caught them by surprise."
"Enough, stop arguing. It's not too late to mend the fold after the sheep are lost. Release all the remaining Kabane at once. We'll personally step in and hold off those Samurai. Success or failure hinges on this!"
"Success or failure hinges on this!"
"..."
As a Kabaneri, Mumei was extremely sensitive to the Kabane's presence. She had already been feeling uneasy these past few days, and only after Xu Yue assigned her to search for Kabane alone did she understand why.
At some point, traces of Kabane had begun appearing throughout Kōkan Station. There were quite a few of them!
Their locations were all secluded and remote, and Kōkan Station was so large that she had been too far away to notice them over the past few days!
But once she began patrolling the entire city, they could no longer escape her senses.
At first, everything went fairly smoothly. With the new Jet Bullets, scattered Kabane had no chance of spreading.
However, as Mumei led a squad of Samurai toward another location where she sensed their presence, she suddenly stopped and raised a hand to signal the squad behind her to halt.
"Lady Mumei, what happened?"
A Samurai asked respectfully. At first, they had been dissatisfied with letting a young girl lead them, but after Mumei displayed her unparalleled strength, every one of them had become wholeheartedly convinced.
"The Kabane's presence appeared all at once. Damn it—they've released all the Kabane they had originally chained up."
Having already swept through several locations, everyone knew that these Kabane had been imprisoned.
Now that they heard Mumei's words, their expressions turned grave.
Even though they had conducted several evacuation drills and the civilians had already been evacuated, there was still a risk of the infection spreading.
There was no longer time to clear them out one by one.
"Split up. We must contain the infection!"
"Understood!"
For a time, all of Kōkan Station descended into chaos, and open flames even appeared in several places.
The roars of Kabane and the screams of civilians echoed continuously through the air.
From atop a rooftop, Lone Wolf continuously sprayed bullets from the MP5 in his hands. Its terrifying rate of fire allowed him alone to suppress an entire Samurai squad.
"Ha ha! Come on! Keep coming! Bite them! Spread the virus!"
The muzzle flashes illuminated the madness and savagery on Lone Wolf's face.
Even if the plan had been forced ahead of schedule, I would still complete this mission!
This was an opportunity bestowed by heaven. This was my opportunity. No one could take it from me.
The Submachine Gun's low penetrating power was insufficient to deal much damage to Kabane, but it posed an enormous threat to the Samurai's flesh-and-blood bodies.
He completely pinned that squad of Samurai behind cover, unable to raise their heads. During that time, the Kabane released from the wooden house beneath Lone Wolf's feet had already successfully infected two civilians.
If the evacuation had not been organized and so few people remained, it would certainly have infected many more.
"Not enough! Not enough!! Far from enough! Keep biting!"
With his Firearm Mastery skill, Lone Wolf changed magazines in one smooth motion. This magazine was vastly different in color from the previous one, gleaming gold.
Golden Magazine: Provided ten minutes of continuous fire without needing to reload, slightly increased firing speed, increased range, and greatly increased penetration.
After loading the magazine, Lone Wolf still felt it was not enough. Raising a hand, he injected himself with a syringe.
Gunner's Stimulant
With the double enhancement, combined with his Firearm Mastery and the Submachine Gun's already exceptional firing rate, he became an unstoppable force. All anyone could do was watch as the Kabane released from the wooden house beneath him continued spreading the infection.
"Just as expected, once the plan was forced to begin early, they would only arrange for people to release the Kabane in different locations and hold back the Samurai..."
Yet just as Lone Wolf entered his peak state, a soft sigh sounded beside his ear.
In an instant, every hair on his body stood on end.
"Who..."
But before he could turn around and react, a Kunai strengthened with Kabane membrane, its surface marked by dark-red patterns, stabbed into the side of his neck.
It severed his carotid artery.
Blood sprayed out like a jet of water.
Whatever words remained were choked off by the blood pouring from his throat.
He covered the wound desperately, trying to stop the loss of blood, but it was meaningless. As he fell to the ground and looked at the figure behind him, whose cheek was stained with a little blood, his face filled with terror and grief.
He had just used all his items and skills. He had just reached the peak of his life. With his frontal firepower suppression, even formal reincarnators who had passed their Promotion Mission would have to avoid his edge. Yet he died so miserably, so insignificantly.
I won't accept this!
Spy had said Xu Yue was a "partner of justice." He had said Xu Yue would not kill people!
You lied to me!
"Would you rather have been killed after being broken through from the front than die so pathetically? Sorry, I didn't indulge you."
Xu Yue, his face stained with blood, looked down at the Lone Wolf who could only twitch now, his expression indifferent. He paid no attention to the Kabane below, which had already multiplied.
Not enough. Trash like this alone still can't make me feel my heart pounding!
