This was the children's first meal in the valley. After a night of hurried relocation and the brief chaos of arriving at their new home, they gathered around the large dining table on the platform. The Special Operations Bureau staff assigned to the valley had prepared steaming buns, rice porridge, and hot soup for everyone. Because everything had been arranged in such a rush, it could hardly be called a sumptuous meal, but at that moment, a hot breakfast was enough to put everyone at ease.
Yu Sheng sat at one end of the long dining table—really, it was very long. Huli sat to his right, while Eileen sat on the tabletop. Guided by their older brothers and sisters, the youngest children took their places on either side of the table according to their usual seating arrangements at the orphanage, with small plates already set before them.
