That was the last whisper the "invader" murmured. The breath representing life was so faint at the moment of death that it sounded almost like a breeze drifting from the edge of a hallucination. The sound melted away beside their ears, leaving only a few unsettling ticking noises.
It was the sound of blood dripping onto the floor.
"What did he say?"
Another member of the Hermetic Society came over and asked in a low voice.
The black-robed man standing beside Yu Sheng's corpse lowered his head, seemingly still confused by that disturbing auditory hallucination. Only when his companion asked a second time did he raise his head as if jolted awake from a dream. In a somewhat dazed tone, he muttered, "He said he was going to die, but something had come back to life... I don't know. I didn't hear clearly."
His voice carried a hint of hesitation, as if merely repeating those words brought with it a faint sense of mental unease.
But where exactly did that unease come from? What was he worried about? The black-robed man himself couldn't explain it.
He only heard the member of the Hermetic Society who had just been sent flying by the invader's club and suffered severe injuries groaning in pain. Even the large doses of cardiac stimulants and adrenaline automatically injected by the Power Armor couldn't completely suppress the agony. The armor's life-support system was now forcibly keeping him alive, but if they delayed any longer, he wouldn't survive.
"He has to be taken to the operating room immediately... His internal organs are like a lump of rotten mud." Someone had checked the injured man's condition and spoke rapidly. "His original body can't be saved. Make a decision: pure steel or blessed flesh?"
The Hermetic Society member lying on
