The living doll named Marlin left with her "Clockwork Maid," this time leaving Yu Sheng her contact information as well.
Before leaving, she had taken Yu Sheng somewhere secluded and talked with him a little more about the "Eileen" doll who had disappeared more than three thousand years ago. She also said that after returning, she would continue investigating information about that doll through the Alice dolls' dedicated matrix network, while continuing to gather any clues that might be related to the "Ominous Wandering Star."
According to her, there was very little information about the "Eileen" who had disappeared 3,700 years ago in the current "Garden" network. The main reason was simply that too much time had passed—the "Garden" matrix had undergone countless rounds of upgrades and node reconstruction over the past three thousand years. It had even undergone more than ten upgrades on the scale of rebuilding the entire network. During those successive upgrades, some overly ancient data that no one accessed anymore might have already sunk into certain "information dark zones," making it impossible to find through conventional methods. Everything depended on luck.
Of course, for Yu Sheng, simply hearing this information today was already an enormous gain.
The black luxury car turned at the intersection in the distance and disappeared into the streets of the old town. Yu Sheng turned around and went back inside, where he saw the little doll sitting on the coffee table, holding the remote and watching television.
The television was still showing some worthless trash variety show. A group of overly theatrical guests were putting on an absurd skit with no chemistry whatsoever, one whose scripted nature was obvious at a glance. Eileen, however, was watching with rapt attention, craning her neck as if she wanted to crawl right into the screen.
