The struggle between cats was fierce and cruel—but sometimes it also involved the very realistic art of compromise.
Once they realized they really couldn't "hiss" harder than the King, all the black cats gathered in the alley began meowing at once. They even seemed much more worldly-wise than cats in the real world.
Yu Sheng hadn't expected things to develop this way. Watching from the side, he found the whole process surreal. The King, however, seemed quite used to it, clearly having dealt with the "cats" in the Dark Alley before. After intimidating the entire group, it turned to Yu Sheng and complained, "The 'cats' generated here don't have much of a brain, and they don't remember anything. Next time I come in, they'll still recklessly crowd around me."
At that, it spat to the side with surprising humanlike disdain. "The good news is that they strictly follow several feline traits, including attacking living creatures within their territory, being bribed with canned cat food, and submitting to stronger cats. That makes them much easier to deal with than many entities in other Otherworlds."
"Then let's hurry and ask what's going on in this alley," Yu Sheng said immediately. "For example, these three emergency exits, and the abnormalities in the Old Bookstore—and preferably ask them about the Shattered Tower too."
The moment he finished speaking, an expression that looked close to breaking appeared visibly on the King's cat face—though Yu Sheng had no idea how it managed to make that expression. After holding it in for several seconds, the tabby cat finally said with some difficulty, "Those are too complicated to communicate... Cat vocabulary isn't that extensive, and they aren't very smart either."
Yu Sheng: "..."
"Then I'll give it a try too," the King continued. "Don't get your hopes up.
