The snow came down on and off for the rest of the night, and at some point, it seemed a strong wind had blown through as well.
The muffled sound of the wind reached through the window, and instead, it helped Yu Sheng sleep much more soundly that night.
Of course, another reason he might have slept so well was that Eileen had been relatively well-behaved that night. Maybe she had tired herself out playing in the snow by the door for half the day after returning yesterday. She hadn't tossed and turned nearly as violently as usual, with spiral flying kicks followed by knee strikes and then elbow strikes. She had only headbutted him twice...
Snowy days were always perfect for sleeping in. By the time Yu Sheng opened his eyes, the sky outside was already bright. Through the window, he could hear children making a racket downstairs. The little doll who had slept on the bed the night before was nowhere to be seen, and even of the four boxes in the corner, three had been emptied. Only Eileen remained, curled up inside one of them and playing with her phone watch. When she saw Yu Sheng get up, she merely raised an arm lazily and pointed outside. "Big Golden Hair took a bunch of kids outside for a snowball fight."
Yu Sheng sat on the edge of the bed for a moment to wake up, then walked over, pulled open the curtains, and pushed open the window.
A blast of cold air slammed into his face and poured into his lungs, instantly sweeping away all of Yu Sheng's drowsiness and jolting him fully awake.
The laughter and shouting outside the house also became especially clear.
