The World Behind the Veil
Yu Sheng's question made Baili Qing raise her eyebrows slightly at once, though the movement was very subtle.
"There's naturally only one Crossroads," Baili Qing said. "Something like a 'world convergence point' isn't mass-produced."
"I'm talking about Boundary City," Yu Sheng said seriously. "There's only one Crossroads, but what about Boundary City? Could there be another city in the world, located in the Crossroads, that resembles it?"
He paused, looked into Baili Qing's eyes, and slowly continued, "Very similar, but not quite the same. They have the same name, and some locations share the same names, but unlike this place, it isn't 'extraordinary.' It's just an ordinary place... If this world has an observable scale of hundreds of billions of light-years or even wider, then within such a vast range, is it possible for a city matching my description to exist?"
Perhaps it was only Yu Sheng's imagination, but when she heard this, Baili Qing's expression became somewhat strangely solemn.
The "Director" remained silent for several seconds before speaking cautiously. "Regarding your 'hypothesis'—I'll call it a hypothesis for now—scholars actually have a theory. It goes like this:
"If the spatial and temporal scales of the entire universe are infinite, or at least nearly infinite in a statistical sense, within the range that humans can imagine and hypothesize, then two identical or highly similar locations might appear somewhere in the universe. Two planets with highly similar parameters, two similar mountain peaks, or even... two extremely similar histories. The probability of such 'mirrors' appearing may not be high, but given a sufficient scale of time and space, it is absolutely not zero."
Yu Sheng thought for a moment, then nodded lightly. "I think I've heard a similar theory..."
"Then let me tell you about one limitation of
