Chapter 75: "Another Boundary City"

Before long, two more people had arrived at Baili Qing's office.

One was the burly Song Cheng. The other had graying hair and looked to be in his fifties.

The latter wore narrow-rimmed glasses. He was not tall and was slightly overweight, looking like an ordinary mid-level office supervisor who had already begun coasting toward retirement.

Baili Qing looked up at the two people who had come to her office and nodded slightly. "You came quickly."

"You went to meet that person called 'Yu Sheng'?" Song Cheng was the first to speak. "Judging by your expression... did you discover something?"

"I spoke with him at length, and the process differed greatly from what I had anticipated. 'Yu Sheng' may be the most unusual 'unnatural' individual I've ever encountered. However, before discussing the details, I want you to look at something."

As she spoke, Baili Qing turned her gaze toward the gray-haired man—the head of the Confidentiality Management Division. "Luo Zheng, close the door."

Luo Zheng immediately nodded and turned to close the office door.

The instant he shut it, an invisible suppression spread throughout the room. It was as if a breeze had swept across the surroundings. Wherever it passed, even the dust drifting through the air seemed to freeze in place.

Seeing the setup, Song Cheng's heart tightened. He muttered inwardly, This is bad, and abandoned his plans to leave work on time that afternoon.

Once Baili Qing had "sealed" the office, she silently rose and went to the floor-to-ceiling window.

The window was enormous. A faint haze perpetually veiled the view outside, yet the scenery within it was constantly changing. It was clearly not scenery that should exist in Boundary City. Sometimes, it was a range of rolling mountains; sometimes, an endless forest.
