The Old Witch Got a Beating
"We'll go down after daybreak."
Qin Feng said.
By now, the stairwells on the three floors below had all been affected, with shouts echoing up from below.
Dorm Seven was in a remote location on the highest floor. Though they had not been affected yet, it would only be a matter of time.
"Fine..."
Xiao Wu had actually wanted to sneak back into the dorm while everyone was still asleep and before things escalated.
But Qin Feng and Tang San had stopped her.
Although the commotion had not been loud at the time, what if someone happened to wake up when she returned to the dorm? They had only met on their first day, so who knew whether someone would report them?
That was why they had run straight up to the rooftop, planning to return at dawn or after the disturbance had calmed down a little.
If someone was awake by then, they could simply say that they had heard the commotion and gone down to see what was happening. That would be much safer.
It was not that they did not trust their roommates. It was simply better to be cautious.
"But I'm really sleepy."
After a moment of silence, Xiao Wu rubbed her eyes.
She was like any ordinary human little girl now. After all the trouble that night, she was exhausted.
"By the way, Xiao Wu, Teacher told us last night that he's taking us out somewhere."
Tang San spoke to Xiao Wu. He had wanted to tell her about it last night, but had never found the chance.
"Going out? Then you won't even be attending the opening ceremony?"
Xiao Wu asked, her large eyes bloodshot from exhaustion.
"Mm, we probably won't be attending."
Qin Feng answered.
"Then I'll be the only one left at the back field. It's such a huge place. Can you really bear to make a girl clean all of it by herself?"
Xiao Wu, who had just been overcome by drowsiness, now puffed out her cheeks in displeasure.
"Uh..."
Tang San scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
It was true that after they left, Xiao Wu would be the only one left to clean up. That did seem rather unfair, especially since she was a girl.
"Mm, we really should compensate you."
Just as Tang San was wondering how to respond, Qin Feng spoke. A golden card appeared in his hand.
"This is a VIP card for the second-floor cafeteria. There's enough balance on it for one person to eat for at least another month. How about giving it to you?"
Qin Feng smiled as he held the VIP card out in front of Xiao Wu.
Xiao Wu had still been fuming, but the moment she saw the card, a gleam flashed through her big eyes.
"Fine, then I'll agree!"
Xiao Wu had originally intended to hold out a little longer. She could not let these two guys off so easily after they had bullied her in battle and dumped all the cleaning work on her. But when she thought of the delicious food on the second floor, she was afraid Qin Feng might change his mind, so she immediately nodded in agreement.
"Uh..."
Tang San was stunned by how readily Xiao Wu agreed.
He had to admit, Feng Ge's move was too effective.
Xiao Wu might have looked like a six-year-old girl, but during today's meal on the second floor of the cafeteria, she had eaten more than anyone else.
Of course, an important reason was that the food on the second floor really was excellent.
Time passed, second by second.
In the blink of an eye, it was past six in the morning, nearly seven.
The first rays of sunlight slowly rose, bathing the three of them in a gentle orange-red glow. Their three small shadows stretched farther and farther across the ground.
Looking down from the rooftop, they saw a man dressed in black slowly approaching.
Many students around him whispered among themselves when they saw the man in black, but he seemed not to hear them.
"Teacher is here. We need to get down quickly!"
Tang San said to the others when he saw that figure.
And so, the three of them went down from the rooftop to Dorm Seven.
Most of the people in Dorm Seven were already awake, but no one paid much attention to Qin Feng and the others' disappearance.
When they heard that the old witch had been beaten, many of the Work-Study Students ran out to witness it for themselves.
They had to admit, it was incredibly satisfying.
"Feng Ge, Third Brother, Sister Xiao Wu, you're really not being loyal at all. How could you sneak out to watch the show without waking us?"
Wang Sheng and the others had returned, looking at the three of them with some resentment.
"Yeah, Feng Ge. We didn't see anything. By the time we got there, we only saw that old witch being carried out wrapped up like a mummy."
Another Work-Study Student wore a regretful expression.
"Uh, we only went down after hearing the commotion too. We don't know what happened either."
Qin Feng gave an awkward smile and shrugged.
"Oh? So, Feng Ge, did you see how badly the old witch got beaten?"
Wang Sheng asked with great interest.
When he had first enrolled, he had had a close friend. Later, because of his blunt temper, that friend had been bullied to death by noble students. The old witch had been the one who handled the case.
The nobles paid one hundred Gold Soul Coins and had the old witch file it as a cultivation accident in the academy's name. After manipulating everything herself, the old witch gave the parents only ten Gold Soul Coins.
Everyone could understand skimming ten or twenty Gold Soul Coins under normal circumstances. After all, she had handled the matter personally and put in some effort. But taking ninety percent outright was black-hearted to the extreme.
The key was that the parents did not know what had happened. They truly believed their child had suffered an accident during cultivation and, overwhelmed with grief, had no choice but to accept the ten Gold Soul Coins.
For an ordinary family, ten Gold Soul Coins was no small sum.
After all, on the Douluo Continent, a Spirit Master only received one Gold Soul Coin per month. Upon reaching the Soul Grandmaster rank, they could receive ten a month.
Soul Grand Masters were figures respected wherever they went in this place!
If Wang Sheng had not continued to harbor resentment over the matter and thoroughly investigated it after his strength had grown, he would never have known that the old witch's heart was so black!
"Mm, she was in pretty bad shape. Looking at her, she barely even looked human."
Qin Feng pretended to recall it after giving the matter some thought.
Tang San and Xiao Wu looked at Qin Feng. He was the one who had beaten her senseless, yet he could now act like an onlooker without changing expression, calm as ever, solemnly spouting nonsense. If they could, the two of them truly wanted to give him an award for Best Actor. Was this really a six-year-old kid??
Tang San sat on the bed and watched Qin Feng spin his tale with utter ease, feeling thoroughly outclassed. If he had not been beside Qin Feng, he would have believed it just like Wang Sheng and the others!
That was because there was not the slightest flaw in Qin Feng's story. It sounded even more real than the truth!
With a soul over thirty years old, he was probably nowhere near as good at making things up as Feng Ge!
Were all children outside this freakish?
But the six- and seven-year-old children at Notting Academy looked perfectly normal. Not one of them was like Feng Ge!
"Why is everyone up so early?!"
Just then, a hoarse voice suddenly came from outside.
