Background
Favored princess of Great Zhou
Changle was an exceptionally favored daughter of Benevolent Sovereign Ji Long. At seventeen, before reaching Great Zhou's age of adulthood, she was already permitted freedoms unusual for an unmarried princess, including frequent travel beyond her mansion. Her personal force was correspondingly exceptional: her Imperial Guards numbered ten thousand, with Spirit-Connecting Realm commanders and at least three thousand guards accompanying her on journeys. 1284
Although outwardly tranquil and gentle, she opposed attempts to replace Ye Zhen as her guard captain during a dangerous expedition, insisting that the commander personally chosen by her remain in charge. 1333 She later used her influence to expand her guard force into an organized combat unit and made Ye Zhen its first Guard Colonel, discouraging noble scions from treating her as an object of courtship. 1319
Barbarian Saintess inheritance and exile
During the contest for the Barbarian Saintess inheritance, Changle appeared in ancient Barbarian Maiden attire after the original maiden's divine soul was destroyed. The Colorful Vortex then redirected its inheritance into Changle, granting her a connection to the Power of Creation. 1339
Soon afterward, She Wa's projection destroyed the spirit vessel carrying the expedition. Ye Zhen caught Changle as they fell into a Spatial Channel; the colored inheritance light surrounding her protected both of them from the channel's starlight. 1343
The pair became stranded in Devil Race territory for more than a year. Changle adopted the name Cai Qing, explaining that her sheltered life in Luoyi had felt like a prison and that she wanted to be treated as an individual rather than solely as a princess. 1368 She healed thousands of abused human slaves, taught them literacy and cultivation methods, and became deeply attached to their welfare. 1367 1381
Return to Luoyi and entry into politics
After returning to Great Zhou, Changle confronted officials who accused her of being a Devil-controlled corpse and openly challenged the Heavenly Patrol Division's account of her disappearance. 1388 1392 Her year in hostile territory changed her from a sheltered royal into a politically determined figure. She resolved to seek power within Great Zhou so she could protect the human slaves and address the conditions that had enslaved them. 1381
She joined the Ancestral God Hall through her Barbarian Saintess inheritance, rose to First Deputy Hall Master of the Barbarian Spirit Hall, and built a loyal faction among neglected priests and Great Zhou-born Moon and Star Priests. 1659 1744 An imperial decree also granted her the authority of an imperial prince, permitting her to participate in state affairs despite being a princess. 1701
Princess Regent and palace conflict
As Princess Regent, Changle used her imperial seal and royal regalia to halt Jiangzhou Governor Wei Fan's attack and compel soldiers, officers, and civilians to recognize her authority. 2449 She later tried to persuade Ji Long to prepare for a possible multi-race invasion; when he dismissed Ye Zhen's warning, she brought supporting intelligence to Grand Priest Bai Xiang instead. 2524
Ji Long's failing health eventually revealed a darker threat: Changle was to be refined into a medicinal catalyst to extend his lifespan. Grand National Teacher Yu Zhen informed her that she had no choice, while ten Creation Realm Divine Beings sealed off Changle Garden. 2760 Yu Chaoen aided her escape despite accepting punishment for doing so, and Changle later prepared an ambush against Yu Zhen with the Three Thousand Ghost Square Grand Formation. 2779 2795
Appearance
Changle is renowned for an ethereal beauty that Ye Zhen compares to moonlight: delicate features, jade-like skin, bright star-like eyes, and an aura that makes her seem distant from the mortal world. 1272
- Phoenix eyes and a naturally composed smile. 1317
- Long black hair, which can reveal ghostly faces when she releases her yin spirit power. 1734
- A regal bearing that remains difficult to conceal even when dressed as a human slave or wearing a disguise. 1381 1382
- Common attire includes lake-green palace gowns, simple green dresses, and formal princess regalia with a seven-pearl phoenix crown and embroidered cape. 1367 1659 2449
- Ye Zhen once disguised her in Devil Race fashion with loose hair, temple braids, a red forehead band, heavy makeup, and a fitted dress, making her unrecognizable. 1349
Personality
Changle is gentle, compassionate, and refined, but possesses considerable inner strength. She interceded to stop Eunuch Di from punishing Ye Zhen, supported her guard captain against the Ancestral God Hall and Heaven Temple, and consistently showed special concern for vulnerable human slaves. 1288 1333 1367
Her time in Devil Race territory gave her a clear purpose and a willingness to confront court corruption directly. She is politically perceptive, carefully protects her reputation, and knows when to invoke both royal authority and formal law. 1387 2449 Once committed to a goal, she is notably stubborn; Yu Chaoen describes her as someone who does not change her mind after making a decision. 1702
Changle's affection for Ye Zhen is sincere and increasingly open. She sees him as the person who freed her from the confines of royal life, though she remains capable of teasing him about his other relationships. 1701 2818
Abilities & Skills
Barbarian Saintess Inheritance
Changle inherited a portion of the Barbarian Saintess's legacy, giving her access to the Power of Creation and uniquely pure Creation Spirit Energy.
- Her Creation Spirit Energy is qualitatively superior to ordinary spirit energy and can harm opponents of the Creation Realm. 1796 2796
- She tore open the void barehanded without using Heaven and Earth Laws. 1659
- Her inheritance refinement was initially limited; after more than six years, she had refined only half a tenth of it. 1796
- Her inheritance gives her no fundamental threshold to eventually enter the Creation Realm. 2960
Healing and restorative power
Changle can channel Creation Divine Power to restore life and bodily vitality.
- Healed the injuries, chronic illnesses, fractures, and failing vitality of four to five thousand human slaves within moments. 1367
- Created pastries infused with gathered grass-and-tree essence that strengthen the body, invigorate the mind, and clear the head. 2524
- Uses a Secret Art and her refined control of divine source and aspiration power to repair Empress Xiaoman's severely damaged divine source. 3353
Yin spirit manipulation
A core aspect of Changle's inheritance is her ability to command yin spirits, souls, and mountain sprites.
- Accidentally killed over a thousand Devil Race slaves with a scream, drew in their divine souls, and formed a Yin spirit from them. 1367
- Can command summoned Yin spirits instinctively and describes controlling them as easily as handling a toy. 1368
- Maintains yin spirit guards, including several with Dao Realm strength. 2788
- Her control has practical limits: awakening or commanding too many powerful Archaic Yin Dragons risks backlash against her primordial spirit. 2789
Formations and Barbarian Ancient Talismans
Changle combines yin spirits with inherited talisman methods to create large-scale battlefield formations.
- Deploys the Three Thousand Ghost Square Grand Formation, which uses three thousand yin spirits and can draw on local earthly meridians and yin aura. 2795 2796
- Sacrificed one hundred thousand demonic souls to substantially strengthen the formation against Creation Realm Divine Beings. 2795
- Uses eighteen Barbarian Ancient Talismans at once to subdue Archaic Yin Dragons and transform them into yin spirit guards. 2789
- Her subjugation of one thousand dragons cost many weaker spirits; only about three hundred of her original spirits remained usable afterward. 2789
Statecraft and leadership
Changle is an educated and capable political operator.
- Read Great Zhou's histories and secret court records from its founding onward before deciding to compete for political authority. 1381
- Won over roughly thirty percent of previously neglected Barbarian Spirit Hall priests and built an independent power base. 1744
- Uses her status, law, timing, and public legitimacy to turn hostile military and political situations in her favor. 1387 2449 2450
