"I'd barely been gone a moment, and you started skipping class!
Lin Shuguang, just what do you think you're doing?!
Do you realize you're in your final year of high school now?!
You don't have much time left! Your Blood Energy Value wasn't high to begin with. Shouldn't you be working even harder?
What kind of man gives up on himself?!"
Old Fu truly hadn't expected Lin Shuguang to have grown this bold.
This was nothing like the Lin Shuguang he knew.
"Explain yourself!"
Having lived his life over again, Lin Shuguang felt differently as he faced Old Fu's scolding.
After a long silence, he turned his head and tilted his chin up slightly, at a forty-five-degree angle.
He gazed through the window at a pine tree bathed in the early winter morning sunlight, a hint of profundity seemingly in his eyes.
Just as Old Fu's fury became unbearable, he heard Lin Shuguang say with deep feeling, "Looks like I can't hide it anymore."
Old Fu's eyelid twitched, and he gave a cold laugh. "Fine, then explain yourself! Otherwise, I'll make you pay!"
Lin Shuguang withdrew his gaze and looked at Old Fu. "How much do you remember about that night?"
Old Fu froze.
Lin Shuguang stood with his hands behind his back. "Aren't you curious who actually saved you that day?"
"Don't tell me it was you?" Old Fu asked with a peculiar expression.
Lin Shuguang had been about to admit it, but the words suddenly changed on his lips. "It was my senior brother! That day, he and I heard fighting at the abandoned construction site, so we followed the sounds over. I was the one who recognized your voice... That man wanted to kill you for revenge, and he even threatened to go on a killing spree at school... In that moment of crisis, my senior brother stepped forward, killed that Demonic Cultivator, and saved you."
Old Fu was utterly stunned.
He had thought Lin Shuguang was making things up, but apart from him and the dead Demonic Cultivator, the only person who truly knew the details of that night was the man who had saved his life.
"It really was your senior brother?" Old Fu asked anxiously.
Keeping a straight face, Lin Shuguang felt a mischievous urge. "How else do you think I know so many details?"
Old Fu's fierce expression had intimidated him for three whole years in his previous life. Now it was his turn to bluff.
Besides, Lin Shuguang didn't want to reveal his strength so soon.
After all... he wasn't a Martial Artist yet and still lacked the ability to protect himself.
Old Fu pressed him for a few more details and finally confirmed it, saying excitedly, "I've been looking for him all these days, but I could never find out who saved me that night. To think! To think! Who is your senior brother? He saved my life. I must thank him properly in person."
"No need," Lin Shuguang said casually. "My senior brother doesn't care about that at all. He's devoted to martial arts. He spends all his time cultivating and simply doesn't have time."
Old Fu felt some regret at that, but also a deep respect. "Then I understand. Have you been absent from school these past few days because you've been training with your senior brother?"
Lin Shuguang nodded.
Old Fu considered it for a moment. "I heard from the Special Management Bureau that the man who saved me-your senior brother-was a Martial Artist with formidable saber skills. Training with him must benefit you greatly. All right, next time you go out, just let me know. I'll approve it every time."
Lin Shuguang gave a dry cough.
He hadn't expected a story he'd casually made up to somehow let him skip class openly from now on.
"If there's nothing else, I'll head back to class."
Old Fu was still immersed in the shock of learning that Lin Shuguang's senior brother had saved his life.
Seeing Lin Shuguang about to leave, he suddenly asked, "Right, what's your senior brother's name?"
Lin Shuguang paused, tilted his head, and blinked. "Feng San."
"I'll remember that! I'll never forget that he saved my life! If possible, I hope you can pass my promise on to your senior brother. From now on, whatever he asks of me, I'll never refuse!"
Hearing those familiar words, Lin Shuguang suddenly stopped and turned to look at Old Fu. "Are you serious?"
Old Fu looked at him with complete seriousness. "I mean every word!"
Lin Shuguang blinked, closed the office door again, and walked back. "There actually is something..."
"What did you say? A Martial Artist Cultivation Method?" The corner of Old Fu's mouth twitched.
Lin Shuguang nodded. "Do you have one?"
Slowly recovering, Old Fu asked in confusion, "But isn't your senior brother already a Martial Artist? Why would he still need a Martial Artist Cultivation Method?"
Lin Shuguang's expression didn't change. "I heard him mention it, so I was curious. But he's been busy lately, and I haven't found the time to go read it, so I thought I'd ask you. You don't know this, but my senior brother cares about two things most in life. One is cultivation, and the other is me! Being good to me is the same as being good to him."
Old Fu's mouth slowly fell open. How am I supposed to interpret that?
Hmm, actually, it's normal for fellow disciples to be close.
After weighing it for a moment, he told him the truth. "I do have a Martial Artist Cultivation Method, but I really can't give it to you. Your senior brother might not have told you, but graduates of the Martial Arts School like us are absolutely forbidden from sharing the Martial Artist Cultivation Methods we learned there. Not even with our own sons! Every one of us swore a solemn oath!"
"A solemn oath?" Lin Shuguang's expression turned odd.
People still believe in that these days?
No one had believed in that stuff in the law-governed society of his previous life, let alone in a world like this, where people fought and killed at the slightest disagreement.
Seeing the doubt in his eyes, Old Fu shook his head. "You'll understand when you go to the Martial Arts School someday. This world is far more frightening than you imagine."
Lin Shuguang raised his eyebrows. There seemed to be something behind Old Fu's words.
But he recalled how Feng San and Wei Sheng had both said Master Jin possessed a Martial Artist Cultivation Method, speaking as though he could simply take it out and show anyone.
So he couldn't help asking in confusion, "As far as I know, some people can share Martial Artist Cultivation Methods without any reservations. Why is that? Aren't they afraid of... their oaths?"
Old Fu pondered. "All I can say is that their Martial Artist Cultivation Methods didn't come from the Martial Arts School. They might be methods created by powerful martial arts masters, or they might have obtained them through some chance encounter. Their quality varies."
Lin Shuguang raised his eyebrows and asked, "So the Martial Arts School's methods are high-quality?"
Old Fu smiled. "You can't put it that way. The Martial Arts School aims for success through steady progress. As for the methods out there, no one can say for sure. They might be world-shaking divine arts, or they might not be worth a damn."
Lin Shuguang looked thoughtful.
Seeing his expression, Old Fu offered a few words of encouragement. "It's still a little early for you to know all this. Keep training hard with your senior brother. You'll surely have a chance to go to the Martial Arts School and experience it for yourself someday."
A few minutes later, Lin Shuguang returned to the classroom, immediately drawing everyone's attention.
Dozens of eyes looked him up and down, over and over, eager to find even the slightest trace of Old Fu's wrath leaving a million corpses in its wake.
Unfortunately, Lin Shuguang was perfectly composed and showed no sign of having taken a beating.
After Lin Shuguang sat down, Xu Jie asked in a quiet, gossipy voice, "Did Old Fu beat you?"
Lin Shuguang shook his head.
Xu Jie scratched his head in bewilderment. "That doesn't make sense. Did Old Fu's temper improve after he got beaten up? Hey, Old Lin, how about taking me along next time you skip class? I feel like I only feel safe when I'm with you."
Lin Shuguang gave him an odd look. "...I'm afraid you might lose that damn head of yours."
"It's not my ass, so I'm not scared!"
Lin Shuguang: "..."
You're something else!
