The night slipped quietly by.
Lu Tao had long since recovered from the shock of Leng Hu's sacrifice and was sharpening his blade, waiting to enter the Demon Domain and slaughter his way through it.
But when he went to Lin Shuguang's quarters that morning, no one answered.
"You're saying no one's there?" Wei Qianjun stopped cultivating and turned to Lu Tao in puzzlement.
Lu Tao looked equally perplexed. "It doesn't make sense. The area we're allowed to move around in is only so big. Besides, where could he go this early?"
Wei Qianjun wiped his sweat with a towel. Remembering a place, he gestured. "Go look along the path. I saw him carrying a broom and cleaning yesterday."
Question marks slowly formed over Lu Tao's head.
Carrying a broom off to clean first thing in the morning?
Was this really the Director Lin he knew, whose word was law?
"There's definitely something fishy here. Lin Shuguang never lifts a finger without something to gain..." Lu Tao followed the path all the way to Elder Song's Other Courtyard. Seeing the tightly shut gate, he failed for a moment to register why it hadn't been opened today.
After searching all around without finding Lin Shuguang, Lu Tao was completely baffled. Where had the man gone?
Returning to Wei Qianjun, Lu Tao described the entire process in detail, summing it up in one sentence: "Squad leader, he's really missing."
Wei Qianjun rubbed his head. "This place is only so big. How does someone just go missing? Are you sure he hasn't holed up somewhere to cultivate? I'll ask the Duty Department. You lot get ready first. We leave in two hours."
"Yes."
Lu Tao went back to prepare, while Wei Qianjun muttered all the way to the Duty Department, only to be
