Background / History
Fang Huai is a reborn soldier who retains memories of his previous life. Before his rebirth, he worked as a water-supply operator and trained as a diver, but regretted never receiving a frontline mission or earning the “qualification to leave a will” through meaningful service. His past also included financial loss after working sales with Chen Shuang’s family and a deeply exploitative relationship with Huang Jiaojiao. 3 117
His original registered name was Fang Shuhuai. “Shu” marked his generation in the Fang family of Ziyang, Sichuan, but Zhang Mei removed it because she thought it sounded feminine. “Huai” was intended to evoke a clear stream as well as strength and courage. 5
After rebirth, Fang Huai enters the People’s Armed Forces Department and decisively breaks up with Huang Jiaojiao. Yang Shaoqing intervenes during the confrontation surrounding the breakup, beginning a relationship that develops from awkward concern into mutual affection. 2 85 142
He joins Hao Chengbin’s Ninth Squad as a recruit. His unusually neat military habits, knowledge of regulations, and ability to adapt quickly make him conspicuous from the beginning. He is later appointed Assistant Squad Leader of Ninth Squad, then again becomes Assistant Squad Leader of Fourth Squad. 7 28 191
Appearance
Fang Huai is a tall, lean but highly conditioned firefighter whose physique appears deceptively unassuming until he tenses or competes.
- Slightly taller than Kui Li, who is about 1.8 meters tall. 367 368
- Weighs roughly 150 jin during the training-class confrontation with the 200-jin Kui Li. 368
- Has compact, functional “live” muscle rather than visibly oversized arms. 443
- His arms visibly become thicker as his training progresses. 444
Personality
Fang Huai is ambitious, competitive, and intensely pragmatic. He makes use of his memories, System missions, family connections, and business income, but does not regard wealth as a substitute for service. He repeatedly chooses military and firefighting work despite having the means to leave it. 52 380 450
He is outspoken and mischievous around comrades, often provoking rivals or teasing friends, but becomes composed and persuasive when speaking to leaders. His confidence can read as arrogance, particularly when he dismisses unknown challengers, yet he is capable of reassessing himself and becoming more patient with the public after disaster-relief experience. 453 394
His leadership is rooted in high standards. He pushes people hard, modernizes training, and expects results, while also supplying protective gear, treating teammates, helping recruits learn, and taking responsibility in emergencies. 216 217 246 265
