Ch. 562Defending Thermopylae
Suye discussed the Persian invasion with General Faste and laid out a defense strategy for Greece, from the northern passes to Thermopylae. He revealed a mountain route around Thermopylae and warned that the Persians could also attack by sea, leaving the defense of Hunters Strait as a key concern.
- Suye showed General Faste a map of Greece and explained that Persia would likely invade through the Vale of Tempe or Pherae Pass with an enormous army.
- Suye and General Faste agreed that Greece could not hold Thessaly indefinitely, so Suye planned to lead the first battle and inflict heavy losses before retreating to Thermopylae.
- Suye told General Faste that the Greeks must defend Thermopylae, then revealed a steep mountain path on Mount Romus that could bypass the pass.
- Suye urged the construction of a fortress on Mount Romus and temporary teleportation arrays linking it to Thermopylae, and General Faste agreed to inform General Miltiades.
- Suye warned that Persia could outflank the land defenses by sailing around Hunters Strait, while General Faste said Greece's navy should be able to hold the strait.
