A hemispherical cloud-and-mist dome stood over the sea, visible to everyone near the Los Angeles beach.
What a strange sight it was. The waves struck the edge of the cloud dome as though pounding against a seaside cliff, which meant that this thing was no cloud or mist at all. It was rigid!
The Canadian fleet was nearby. It rushed to the scene and surrounded the dome.
The sight before them resembled an Energy Barrier from a science-fiction movie, but there was nothing remotely scientific about its appearance. It looked like churning white clouds and mist.
"Colonel Wallace, it's blocking all signals. We have no idea what's happening inside," a naval petty officer said.
Wallace carefully observed the cloud dome and ordered the drones to approach.
A large number of drones were dispatched. They circled the dome, searching for a possible opening, but found none.
The dome completely enveloped the surface of the sea, and the same was true beneath the water, including part of the seafloor sediment. The entire cloud dome was a sphere. It penetrated air, seawater, mud, rock, and other materials, yet isolated everything inside from everything outside.
The drones crashed into it and could not advance at all. One small drone was even moving too fast; it slammed into the barrier, knocked one of its engines off, and fell into the sea.
"This is a physical barrier that looks like clouds and mist..."
"Has it already taken root here?"
"Don't let those stupid reporters come anywhere near this place!"
Wallace ordered the waters sealed off, because a large number of reporters had already begun arriving at the distant beach.
At this point, how could anyone still cling to wishful thinking? This was absolutely not something produced by Earth.
Extraterrestrial Civilization. There was only one explanation.
