Laughing the Aliens to Death

Newtonian Mechanics was, in fact, only suitable for the classical universe. To say that everything truly followed the Three Laws of Planetary Motion was not necessarily correct.

At the very least, at the current stage, it remained a classical law, and it was still needed in many places.

However, in front of an alien, this was perhaps incredibly ridiculous.

They only had to look at the alien's appearance to know. She was practically laughing herself silly...

"Are our scientific theories a joke?"

"This is way too discouraging..."

While everyone smiled apologetically on the surface, some scientists felt awful inside. But on closer consideration, this was only natural.

They were a hundred thousand years behind her in knowledge. Let alone a hundred thousand years—even what people had believed thousands of years ago seemed ridiculous now.

From the alien's perspective, Earthlings had solemnly presented the "laws" in their information as axioms. They might as well have been presenting her with a collection of jokes.

"But she didn't have to laugh this hard, did she?" a physicist said quietly.

"It has to do with cultural differences. When modern people see some of the absurd theories of the ancients, they might not necessarily laugh this hard. But we already know those theories, and we inherited them from the same tradition, so we have some expectations."

A sociologist said softly, "Aliens are different. Think about it: when you've heard a similar joke before, it naturally won't be that funny. But the alien had no idea that this was how Earthlings understood the world. She had no psychological expectations. Suddenly seeing our scientific theories was like someone who had heard countless jokes suddenly hearing a punchline with an incredibly bizarre premise."

With such enormous physiological and cultural differences, their senses of humor were naturally worlds apart.
