Night. The rain had stopped.
School Gate.
Yang Sheng looked enviously at Jiang Ning's Mountain Bike.
"Next time, I'm getting fenders too. It'll be easier to bike to school on rainy days."
The rain had been too heavy that afternoon for cycling, so she had taken the bus to school. Whenever it rained, the buses were especially crowded, packed to the brim.
Even with Yang Sheng's skills, she had waited through two buses before successfully getting on one.
Jiang Ning, with Xue Yuantong clinging to him, said, "Fenders alone might not be enough. You should get a better rain cape too."
Xue Yuantong chimed in, "Exactly! Best if it has room for me in the back, so I can hold the rain cape for you."
She raised her chin, looking as though she had rendered some great service.
As if Jiang Ning would get soaked without her.
Jiang Ning and Yang Sheng made their way through the crowd to the intersection outside the school.
"We'll be going first," Jiang Ning said.
Yang Sheng waved. "See you tomorrow."
When dealing with boys and girls in class she disliked, Yang Sheng was usually sarcastic and cutting. Yet around Jiang Ning, she rarely showed that side of herself. Instead, she was rather easygoing.
Whenever she came across something she did not understand, she often asked Jiang Ning for help.
And whenever she received favors from him, she never let them go unpaid.
She would take the initiative to treat Jiang Ning to snacks like Spicy Hot Pot and Fried Skewers, carrying herself with casual generosity.
After the rain, the air around the River Dam was crystal clear, and all was silent.
Only the streetlights gave off a faint glow.
Xue Yuantong hugged Jiang Ning tightly and complained, "Didn't you eat? Go faster!"
