Background / History
Ancient records show that Black Blood Species existed more than two thousand years before their modern identification. Earlier civilizations called them demons or evil spirits, describing flesh-eating creatures wreathed in dark mist. Their presence may trace back to the origin of humanity itself. 151
They periodically treated surface humanity as an “outdoor pasture,” allowing human populations to grow before conducting purges. Hu Qi concludes that four prior surface civilizations were destroyed through this cycle, including the Secret Martial Civilization, whose practitioners were consumed for their exceptionally rich blood. 151 152
The Earth Mother later proves to be the source of all Black Blood Species. She drove humans to the surface, combined her blood with Earth’s creatures to create the species, and used repeated civilizational destruction to force humanity to produce stronger Heavenly Mandate Persons and greater Destiny power for harvesting. 219 259
In the modern era, the first publicly discovered Lower-tier specimen was Krolov. Its appearance, along with increasing sightings, forced Dragon Abyss and Purple Gold to establish the Xiya Federation against the shared threat. 53
The Federation initially concealed their existence from civilians, calling them “Beasts” to prevent panic. This secrecy ended when the Federation and other nations publicly disclosed both Secret Martial Artists and Black Blood Species, enabling civilians to report suspected infiltrators. 41 235
Following the swallowing of the Earth Mother, every Black Blood Species on Earth abruptly lost its power and died. 256
Appearance
In their normal state, Black Blood Species can appear completely human, making visual identification nearly impossible. Their true appearances commonly become monstrous while feeding or fighting, and individuals in the Underground World may openly display nonhuman traits. 41 174
- Stronger individuals have darker blood; Black Blood is typically dark red to black-red. 53
- Blood Slaves can transform into enlarged, clawed humanoid monsters. 80
- Individual forms vary widely, including scales, wings, horns, multiple heads, distorted faces, and abnormal body proportions. 114 174 183
- Some powerful individuals retain humanoid forms while possessing physiques over two meters tall. 174
Biology and Abilities
Predatory Feeding
Black Blood Species feed on fresh flesh and blood, with humans considered their preferred “blood food.” Other meats are edible but regarded as inferior. 41 183
- They primarily conceal themselves within populated human settlements because they require human prey. 65
- In the Underground World, some rule and protect human communities to preserve a stable food supply rather than slaughtering humans indiscriminately. 174 175
- Surface Black Blood Species commonly infiltrate cities under human disguises to hunt. 164
Physical Superiority and Regeneration
Their basic physical abilities greatly exceed those of ordinary humans, including strength, speed, durability, and healing. 41 49
- A newly transformed woman began healing collapsed chest bones shortly after being struck. 49
- Krolov could endure ordinary bullets, tear people apart, and smash thick concrete walls; tanks and nearly a thousand soldiers were required to kill him. 53
- Chen Yu’s claws could pierce refined iron, while her body and recovery surpassed Secret Martial Artists of an equivalent level. 114 115
- Mid-tier bodies can be comparable to special-alloy structures, though they remain vulnerable to sufficiently powerful Secret Martial Arts. 184
Transformation and Blood Slave Control
Black Blood Species can use their blood to transform humans and other creatures. 41 175
- An ordinary human exposed to transformation either becomes a Blood Slave or dies immediately; they cannot return to being human. 111
- Consuming a Lower-tier Black Blood Species’ blood normally causes either Blood Slave transformation or immediate death. 115
- A Black Blood Species has absolute control over Blood Slaves it created, preventing reliable interrogation of a servant about its master. 80
- Higher-ranking Black Blood Species can sense the death of beings they personally transformed. 175
Bloodline Talents
Upon becoming a Lower-tier Black Blood Species, a Blood Slave awakens an individual talent suited to its circumstances. 114
- Black scales — Chen Yu developed near-full-body scales that greatly enhanced her defense. 114
- Black mist — Some Black Blood Species can wield a cold, sinister black mist as a unique power. 157
- Mystical abilities — Powerful members may possess incomprehensible supernatural powers beyond their physical gifts. 41
Detection and Countermeasures
Their human disguises make them difficult for ordinary people and lower-level Secret Martial Artists to identify. 41 110
- Martial Dao Practitioners can detect Blood Slaves through heightened perception, described as functioning like radar. 110
- Several machine guns or rocket launchers can kill ordinary Black Blood Species, but urban use of firearms risks civilian casualties. 41 65
- Lower-tier Black Blood Species can be temporarily weakened by specialized inhibitors that soften muscles and skin membranes. 151
- Mid-tier Black Blood Species have required coordinated Secret Martial Artists and missile support to kill. 54
Relationships
- Earth Mother — Creator and source of all Black Blood Species; directed humanity’s recurring destruction and reorganization. 219 259
- Humanity — Primary prey and “blood food”; historically cultivated as a renewable population for periodic harvesting. 41 151
- Blood Slaves — Transformed servants and lowest-grade offspring, controlled by the Black Blood Species responsible for their transformation. 80 111
- Secret Martial Artists / Zhu Xi — Principal human opposition, organized to hunt Black Blood Species within cities. 65 66
- Food Masters — Higher-ranking figures capable of transforming Mid-tier Black Blood Species; they forbid subordinates from truly killing one another without cause. 175 186
Story Role / Major Arcs
Secret Threat and Qirong City
The species is introduced to Core Class candidates as a hidden threat opposing humanity. Soon afterward, Blood Slave attacks in Qirong City reveal the scale of their predation: two Blood Slaves kill 139 residents while their Lower-tier master remains at large. 41 52 54
Anshan City Slaughter
During the Gray Mist crisis, Anshan City becomes a gathering place for Blood Slaves and Lower-tier Black Blood Species. Hu Qi uses Blood Qi Beacon Smoke to draw them in and hunts them en masse, while two Mid-tier Black Blood Species emerge from a sea passage. 131 132 141
Underground World
Blackstone City reveals a distinct social order in which Black Blood Species are openly worshipped as Heavenly Gods. They protect human settlements from Exotic Beasts and regulate transformation to prevent their food source from being exhausted. 174 175
Blood Feast
While impersonating Blackstone, Hu Qi summons eight Mid-tier Black Blood Species to a feast in Blackstone City. The assembled monsters pursue Secret Martial Artists Wu Yu and Chang Zhu, only to be devastated by a Spirit Refining Venerable’s phantom. 182 184
Public Exposure and Extinction
The Xiya Federation publicly reveals the species’ existence, leading to reporting hotlines, widespread hunts, and a sharp decline in their attacks. Later, the Earth Mother’s death causes every Black Blood Species on Earth to lose power and perish. 235 256
