The island was not large, and its town had fewer than twenty thousand residents. On the Grand Line, it was an unremarkable little island. It had originally been nothing more than a natural harbor, but passing merchants later discovered a business opportunity: the sap of the island's red maple trees could be used for dyes and medicine. That discovery brought prosperity to the once-desolate Red Leaf Island, gradually giving it its present scale.
