The next day, the three female ghosts woke from their deep sleep, their limbs weak and their bones soft, feeling as though their entire skeletons were about to fall apart. Sunlight streamed through the window lattice from outside, terrifying them so badly that their souls nearly scattered. Not caring that their clothes were disheveled, they hurriedly searched for somewhere dark to hide.
But they soon discovered that the sunlight which would once have killed them at a touch now felt somewhat warm. After testing it several times and confirming that it could not harm them, the three female ghosts eagerly reached out, trying to grasp a ray of light in their hands. Unfortunately, no matter how they tried, the instant their palms closed, the light turned into darkness.
The three of them had not seen sunlight for a very long time. Now, dazed and foolish with joy, they soon embraced one another and burst into tears.
"Strange. Why hasn't daylight come, yet our souls haven't flown back?"
After getting dressed, the three women were all utterly confused as they considered the strange situation. Their ash gu had been controlled by Tree Demon Granny; running to the ends of the earth should have been futile. Yet now, they felt a freedom as vast as heaven and earth, as though nothing bound them any longer.
"That scholar definitely isn't an ordinary person!" Xiaodie cried out. There was no other explanation.
After speaking, Xiaodie saw Xiaozhuo and Xiaolan looking at her with utter contempt. Confused, she asked, "What? Was I wrong?"
