Once their mental systems had been developed to a certain point, the Miltans would choose to abandon their fleshly bodies, enter their star armor completely, and transform into mechanical lifeforms.
These mechanical lifeforms were not merely individual machines, but were composed of entire mechanical legions.
The effect was equivalent to an enhanced version of the Imperial Guard. They not only possessed powerful mechanical combat capabilities and the rare psychic systems of mechanical bodies, but, more importantly, they had no weak points like "wetware."
Artificial gestalt consciousness?
If this path were followed to its end, wouldn't every person in the Miltan Federation become a "gestalt"?
No wonder they were such a powerful potential civilization, still thriving under the suppression of the Mechanical Overlord.
