The ones hunting her were none other than two Insectoid Kings, along with a subatomic army crawling across the void.
No matter what size a small species was, they all seemed to enjoy "banding together" in various ways, such as "ant balls," "dung beetle balls," and "schools of fish."

From Little Scarlet's perspective, space began to warp, like a sheet of paper crumpled by an invisible hand. The once-flat spatial passage suddenly bulged, its walls collapsing inward and forming irregular spherical folds. The vacuum gave off sounds like shattering glass, turning the original route into a kind of "highway to death."
"Holy crap, slow down! Don't step on a void trap! If you fall into this thing, it won't be a vacuum—it'll be the Insectoid race's troop-transport space!"

Her arm was still left behind, its five fingers spread as if trying to grab something, but everything below the elbow had already vanished into the warped mirror-like surface of the passage.
