That evening, when he returned home.
Cheng Han had barely pushed open the front door when he heard the black cat meowing.
"Meow~ Meow~ Meow!"
It usually meowed only once, but today it kept meowing nonstop.
It was clear just how excited Sheriff was.
Cheng Han's heart stirred. He quickly walked to the kitchen doorway and found an animal as long as an adult's arm lying motionless on the floor.
After examining it for a few moments, he said in surprise, "Sheriff, you took down a Sable Marten today?"
Sable Martens were exceptionally ferocious hunters. Although they were roughly the same size as cats, in a head-on fight, a cat had over a 99 percent chance of being killed.

After removing its fur, bones, and organs, it would still yield no less than six pounds of meat—enough for one person and one cat to eat well for several meals.
"Meow~"
The black cat meowed again, putting on an expression that plainly said, "Hurry up and praise me."
Cheng Han vigorously rubbed its head a few times and praised it without reservation. "You did an absolutely fantastic job!"
He had always believed that any cat that knew to bring things home was a good cat. On that point, he accepted no objections.
And the black cat brought prey home every day. At the very least, it brought back bird eggs. It worked diligently to support the household; it was truly a good cat among good cats.
"Meow!"
