"I can't prove it."
Those words made the cane—or rather, the Ancestral Spirit—tremble.
The Ancestral Spirit Hall fell silent.
Several seconds passed.
Cheng Han said calmly, "Mr. Ancestral Spirit, you can only take a gamble."
He raised two fingers. "Either gamble that the crisis will not come and do nothing, or gamble that it will come and fight with everything you have."
The Elder's eyes grew brighter, but he said nothing.
This meant that the Ancestral Spirit was conflicted.
As a wondrous consciousness naturally born from this world, it had vaguely sensed an immense crisis drawing near, yet it could not make up its mind to change.
Ancestral Spirits were naturally more inclined to preserve the status quo—or, to put it another way, they were conservative. Thus, they were innately averse to change and unwilling to make changes.
Cheng Han did not urge it. He simply waited quietly.
This silence lasted a full five minutes.
Then.
Cheng Han suddenly turned to look north and broke the silence. "I seem to hear a different sound."
After saying that.
He waved his right hand.
A spray of light spilled out, transforming into a Light Screen. A dark cloud was clearly visible upon it.
Upon closer inspection.
It was not actually a cloud.
It was an exceptionally enormous flock of birds.
"Whoosh!"
"Whoosh!"
Those were the sounds of the flock beating its wings.
By rough estimate.
There were no fewer than five hundred thousand birds.
That was an astonishing number.
The Elder's pair of "lightbulb" eyes immediately focused on the Light Screen.
Cheng Han sighed softly. "In all the years past, there has never been a migration of birds on such a scale. It seems the birds have sensed something too."
