Orcus had once been a mortal. No one knew the details of his mortal life, only that even then he had been a fat man whose entire body looked swollen, and that he had mastered certain spells. After his death, his soul arrived in the Outer Planes and became one of the lowliest larvae. Thus began his struggle through the Abyss, until he finally became one of its most powerful demons!
The Abyss was a wondrous place.
It was filled with absolute chaos, but that absolute chaos held all manner of possibilities. Order could exist there, as could many inconceivable beings.
Starting as a tiny abyssal worm, Orcus evolved into a powerful Demon Lord. But his story did not end there. After his rise, he encountered a terrifying enemy, the drow demigoddess Craven Sherri. That was how Orcus met his first death.
However.
That did not mean it was over.
More than a thousand years later, Orcus returned.
He had come back to life, though he had lost most of his power. Yet Orcus eventually rose again, and even mastered the power of [Last Word]. He died once more while searching for the Wand of Orcus, only to be resurrected by his servants afterward. He was a very unusual Demon Lord, for he had died and returned to life far more often than other beings. It seemed he was inherently difficult to destroy for good. Among the Gods, devils, and demons, exceedingly few could return to life more than a thousand years after their deaths, and Orcus was one such exceptional case. Thus, when he announced his return to the Multiverse, the Gods were not especially surprised. They merely found him an enormous headache!
