The Land of Bones.
Countless undead roamed this wilderness. It had once been an ancient battlefield during the age of the Arcane Empire, and the subsequent crash of a Floating City had left intense energy radiation behind. The undead that rose here were more dangerous than those elsewhere, for their bodies were shrouded in a negative energy field, and any successful attack could drain their enemies' attributes. This was forbidden ground for the living. Not a single living person was visible as far as the eye could see. Occasionally, necromancers passed through, busily transporting strange materials—exotic substances from the Lower Planes, produced in the region between the Spirit Realm and the Netherworld.
An enormous altar towered in the center of the land.
The altar covered a vast area and resembled a Bone Fortress, with seven strange towers surrounding it.
They looked rather like obelisks, but ghostly blue flames burned on all four sides of their peaks. No creature dared approach these obelisks; even liches kept their distance. These were Soul-Calling Towers, and also Soul-Locking Towers. Countless wraiths lingered at their peaks, unable to break free no matter how they struggled. Innumerable wraiths poured out of the ghostly blue flames, charging outward with ceaseless roars, only to crash into an invisible energy field. Some dissipated and were absorbed by the Soul-Calling Towers, while others were hurled back inside.
"My Lord!"
A high-ranking necromancer cleric arrived outside the altar and said respectfully, "The other Soul-Calling Towers are complete. We can begin the ritual."
A pitch-black figure emerged.
A terrifying being descended above the altar: Naram, the God of Death, a deity from another world who had spent nearly a thousand years establishing himself here and stealing the power of the Death Pantheon.
Naram, the God of Death, was both renowned and infamous.
