The news soon reached Soren.
The plague was spreading fast. It had reached not only the Land of Ice and Snow, but also human settlements and the edges of the Elven Forest. This was no natural plague. A natural outbreak could not infect humans and plants alike, and this one had spread far too quickly. It was hard not to suspect someone was controlling it from the shadows.
"Has the Lady of Poisons fallen to the mortal world too?"
Soren studied the intelligence in his hand and murmured, "I can't think of anyone else who could spread a plague this quickly."
The crops were infected.
From the edge of the Elven Forest to the outskirts of the Land of Ice and Snow, and then south of the North Tower, the terrible plague had left its mark. Crops withered overnight. Worse, anyone who ate infected crops soon fell ill. Many who had escaped the initial outbreak had become sick after eating infected animals or plants. The one mercy was that, despite its reach, the disease had not yet claimed many lives.
During the infection period, most sufferers developed no more than a fever. They did not die at once.
That gave everyone time to respond. Divine Magic existed in this world, and priests could quickly treat the plague with Remove Disease.
The only problem was that many people were infected again after being cured.
This must be the Goddess of Plague's doing!
Soren could not help thinking of Malar the God of Hunt. When deities first fell to the mortal world, they lost most of their power. That was why Malar had caused such turmoil in the south: his hunters had performed bloody Sacrificial Rituals to please him and restore the Divine Power he had lost.
