Nature and Structure

Divine Power is the expendable energy used by divine beings to cast divine magic, activate divine abilities, support avatars, and affect laws. It is distinct from Divinity, Divine Rank, and a Portfolio, though all four are interdependent parts of godhood. 133 208 272

Divine energy and law

Divine Power can directly influence rules and, when sufficient power is available, alter small-scale laws. Divine abilities such as Alter Space, Alter Reality, elemental immunities, and divine shields are applications of this law-based power. 249 668

Faith conversion

Prayer and worship are the standard sustainable source of Divine Power. Faith is converted into Divine Power Value and stored within a deity’s Divine Rank. 272 678

• Ordinary daily prayers produce limited gains; large worship rituals can generate substantially more Divine Power in a single day. 678
• A decline in worship weakens a deity’s Divine Power reserves and can force it to reduce the divine magic granted to clerics. 764

Transfer and inheritance

Divine Power can be transferred when a divine being dies or when a deity deliberately grants power to a recipient. The recipient requires an appropriate vessel—Divinity, Divine Rank, or a Portfolio—to retain it safely. 208

• When Soren killed a Godsbane of Fear without possessing Divine Rank or a Portfolio, he could not store the target’s Fear Divine Power; it transferred to Vivian instead. 208

Divine magic

Deities convert Divine Power into spells granted to their clerics. A portfolio allows this process to occur through an organized church and is therefore crucial to stable divine growth. 208 522

Divine abilities

Divine Power fuels abilities that exceed ordinary professional magic by acting directly upon laws. 668

• Alter Space — Enlarges, shrinks, creates, destroys, or otherwise reshapes space; its mastery requires either slaughter experience or 150 Divine Power. 668
• Alter Reality — Temporarily or permanently twists reality at immense Divine Power cost. 668
• Cold Immunity, Fire Immunity, and Death Effect Immunity — Each can be acquired for 50 Divine Power or slaughter experience, negating even epic-level effects of the relevant type. 668
• Divine Power Shockwave — Expends 10 Divine Power to inflict 120 points of single-target divine shock damage that ignores Fortitude saves, or 40 points of area damage within 30 meters. 740

Avatars and manifestations

Manifesting an avatar directly consumes accumulated Divine Power. This makes public intervention or repeated descent into the mortal world expensive even for powerful deities. 522
