Pale Justice

Pale Justice.

From its appearance, this weapon—one of the most powerful on the Material Plane—looked utterly ordinary. It was much like a beginner's longsword bought from a street vendor, with no lavish decorations, inlaid gems, or runes. Yet its very plainness made it extraordinary. Soren knew at a glance, without a moment's doubt, that it was the legendary Pale Justice!

It was a legendary divine sword.

But it had been forged for one purpose alone: to destroy evil!

For all its power, Pale Justice had a remarkably humble origin.

This unadorned sword had been forged by Reynolds, a devout follower of the God of Justice. Reynolds spent thirty years perfecting his metalworking until he could make a flawless blade. As soon as he finished the simple weapon, he offered it to the Church of Torm. The priest who received it placed it on the monastery altar and asked his brothers to pray with him to the God of Justice, beseeching the deity to grant the sword holy power. Yet they never touched the sword. They did not even speak of it.

Ten years later, the other priests had abandoned hope that the sword would be granted divine power, but Idan, the priest who had begun the prayers, continued to pray in silence. Another twenty years passed without a Divine Miracle from the God of Justice. A visiting priest of the God of Watchers mocked Idan for his blind faith in the sword. At that moment, Idan rose, walked to the altar, and gently lifted the long-neglected sword from it.

The priest of the God of Watchers asked Idan whether he had finally come to his senses. Idan replied that he had been clearheaded all along. He had simply been asking the God of Justice for the wrong thing.

The God
