Soren learned quickly. Perhaps 0-level Spells really were much simpler; in a single night, he had already learned Lightning Shock, Prestidigitation, Mage Hand, Mending, Read Magic, Flare, and so on—a total of eight 0-level Spells. The further he progressed, the faster he learned. By the end, basic 0-level Spells required only half an hour for him to construct their Spell Formula.
However, in order to permanently memorize those 0-level Spells, Soren had also spent roughly 300 points of Slaughter Experience.
When he prepared to memorize the ninth 0-level Spell, that familiar dizzy sensation returned. Soren knew that he had overtaxed his mind and his brain could no longer keep up. So he put down the Spellbook and began to rest. Before sleeping, he tried meditating again. This time, he successfully entered a meditative state, though it was not the deep meditation that allowed him to perceive the Weave, merely light meditation that sensed the elements outside. By the time he drowsily woke from sleep during meditation, it was already the following morning.
"I can actually sleep while meditating."
Soren got up and rubbed his head, then stood and packed his things. Meditation was a state similar to sleep. High-level Wizards could use it in place of sleep. Toward the end, Soren's mind had become completely blank, and he had drowsily drifted off as though asleep. Yet he had still retained a trace of awareness of the outside world. It was a very interesting feeling. He went downstairs to eat something, then headed toward the caravan's compound.
