Soren dared to say those words not merely because of his own strength, but because Port Nyanzaru's army was among the finest on the Material Plane. His troops had earned their strength through battle after battle. Before Soren ascended to godhood, the pirate captains had followed him on campaigns far and wide, fighting countless battles, large and small. It was no exaggeration to say that some of his core elite units had survived a hundred battles. Although these troops had fewer opportunities to deploy now, their campaigns against the natives had kept their skills sharp.
Across the entire Material Plane, Soren's army was probably the only one that fought every month, from the beginning of the year to the end.
These pirates could not be left idle. When they had nothing to do, they loved making trouble! (Note: Without battles to fight, incidents of drunken mass brawls in Port Nyanzaru's taverns would increase more than tenfold.)
There were far too many unruly pirates among them. Just because they behaved themselves around Soren did not mean they treated everyone else the same way.
At present, Port Nyanzaru's army was divided into two factions.
One was the Conservative Faction, responsible for maintaining order in Port Nyanzaru and taking over most of the steadier duties. The other was the Warmonger Faction. Rather than such a comfortable life, they preferred adventures filled with novelty and excitement, so they were either sent to deal with the natives or dispatched on dangerous missions elsewhere. The Conservative Faction enjoyed a more peaceful life, while the Warmonger Faction received richer rewards and rose through the ranks much faster. (Note: Because of Soren's [Rogue] portfolio, many warriors under his command had also taken some rogue class levels.)
