Goria's expression was complicated, caught between joy and worry. Given Soren's unusual nature, there was a chance something unexpected could happen if they had a child.

The offspring of deities fell into four categories: True Gods, Godspawn, Demigods, and mortals.

First, the chance of a True God being born was extremely small, and such births involved special circumstances. The most powerful offspring ever born of two deities was the Goddess of Agriculture. But neither of her parents was an ordinary deity: one was the Mother of the Earth from ancient times, and the other was the Lord of Radiance, the mightiest Overdeity. The Goddess of Agriculture had been a True God from birth. She inherited part of her mother's power directly, then took over the Agriculture Portfolio when she came of age.

The second category was Godspawn.

Over the long course of history, the gods had produced quite a few Godspawn. Most had since been sealed away.

Godspawn could be born to two deities or to a deity and a mortal. They were not especially rare, and they were terrifying creatures.

However!

One detail was rather unusual: most Godspawn were born when a deity mated with another being in Deity Form.

An Avatar of Deity could not do that.

Thus, Godspawn were born on other Planes. In the past, deities had personally descended upon the Material Plane, but that was why Godspawn were little more than a legend among mortals.

Next came another kind of offspring—Demigods!

Demigods occupied an unusual position. They were incomplete deities, neither True Gods nor mortals. They inherited some of their parents' power but lacked a complete Divine Rank. Few had appeared throughout history, and many remained in God's Realms. After all, quite a few deities in this world enjoyed mating.
