Mortal power had also suffered a severe blow, with many spellcasters unable to sense the Weave, while low-tier spellcasters whose talents were not yet outstanding had almost entirely lost the ability to cast spells. The collapse of the Weave made them feel extremely unaccustomed to it, and having already grown used to the convenience of the Weave, they were completely unable to control the chaotic magical energy once they lost it.
The function of the Weave was not merely to provide convenience; it also simultaneously constrained the magical energy within the Weave's domain.
This chaos quickly spread to the Underdark, because on this very day, spellcasters within the Underdark suddenly discovered that they, too, had no way to cast spells.

The [Shadow Weave], originally created by the Lady of Night in imitation of the Goddess of Magic, had vanished at the exact same time the Weave disappeared. Not only were spellcasters of the Underdark unable to cast spells, but even the clerics of the Spider Queen Lolth temporarily lost their divine magic abilities. For a time, the order within the entire Underdark—which had been coldly ruled by female priestesses relying on powerful might—was challenged, and massive riots broke out inside many Drow cities as male family members grew restless one by one.
