Soren soon met Jergal.
The legendary Ancient God of Death looked quite ordinary, like an unremarkable necromancer scholar. At that moment, he was aboard the Styx Boat, recording something on a parchment scroll with a quill. Jergal's church had always recorded deaths; one could even say it was waiting for the moment when all things ended. His church believed that even planes and universes would eventually meet their end. Some had once believed that Jergal's true mission was to witness and record the death of the entire Multiverse.
The Time of Troubles did not seem to have affected Jergal much.
He had already given away almost all his portfolios. Kelemvor, the Lord of the Dead, should have already fallen to the Material Plane, but Jergal seemed unaffected as he remained in the Netherworld. Judging by appearances, he probably could not enter his own God's Realm at present, either. Still, there was little in it anyway. At his level, perhaps he no longer had much need for a God's Realm.
Greater divinity!
He was the being closest to an Overdeity in the entire Multiverse. Although he had relinquished the Death Portfolio, he remained the ancient god with the most powerful divinity.
If deities were products of the laws of existence,
then someone at Jergal's level was already approaching the Great Dao!
Throughout the Multiverse's long history, he was the only deity who had given his power to others because he had grown tired of his portfolios. Despite all the divine conflicts and cataclysms over the years, he remained perfectly well with only [quasi-divinity]. No deity dared provoke him without cause.
He had become an observer, only occasionally helping the new God of Death manage affairs.
