Neil Morton's Desperate Situation
The first day passed in anticipation, and the second was much the same.
The days that followed were no different.
And so, time gradually reached the sixth day.
Over these six days, under the Daily Intelligence System, everyone had reaped abundant rewards.
Not only in wealth, but also in cultivation.
Among the hundred Apprentice Knights, one had even officially broken through to become a Formal Knight, raising Thor's total of thirty-four Formal Knights to thirty-five.
Even the other Apprentice Knights and Formal Knights who had not broken through showed clear improvement in their cultivation.
Such things had been unimaginable back when they were at Dreyrosa Castle.
Yet less than two months after leaving the Dreyrosa Family, their lord had given them all of this.
As a result, they were filled with anticipation for the future at every moment.
And just like them, Thor was the same.
A Thorn Butterfly Fish had slightly improved his talent. Together with his gains over the past few days, his knightly progress had been extremely rapid.
He was now drawing ever closer to the middle stage of Apprentice Knight.
At this rate, he might break through to the middle stage of Apprentice Knight before reaching Loren City, even faster than he had originally expected, let alone compared to when he had first left Dreyrosa Castle.
What made the corner of his mouth twitch, however, was that Ryan was progressing even faster. In just a few more days, he would most likely reach the peak of Apprentice Knight.
By the time they reached the territory, he might already be a Formal Knight.
The gap in talent was simply speechless.
They were not even on the same level. As expected of someone who could become a Sky Knight in the future.
Night gradually fell.
Having completed his breathing technique training, Thor suddenly opened his eyes.
The new Intelligence System appeared once more.
"Ding! The Intelligence System has updated!"
"Would you like to open it?"
The mechanical voice rang out, just as it had every day before.
"Open!"
He spoke softly.
The moment his words fell.
Buzz!
Ripples spread outward.
Daily Intelligence has updated 1: One hundred miles ahead of you, a group of Earth Dragons will pass by. 2: In three days, 3: Tomorrow, a mysterious old man will be seriously injured three miles ahead. Saving him will bring you unexpected gains, but thirty years later, it will bring a certain crisis. 4: In one day, one thousand miles to the right, a Hell Demon Dragon from an underground cave will be wreaking havoc. 5: One thousand miles from Loren City, Falling Leaf Valley contains a small iron mine guarded by Goblins. 6: In three days, a group of Unicorn Horses will pass by the Rhine River. They will remain there for three hours before leaving! 7: Seven days later
Just as before, Thor quickly focused on the various gains. Perhaps because they were about to approach Loren City, the rewards were noticeably fewer.
Of course, even fewer rewards were still far more than he had received in Frost Moon Province.
Thor's gaze swept over them one by one before quickly settling on two entries.
But after memorizing them, his gaze could not help but return to the entry that had kept appearing in the intelligence.
"Tomorrow?"
Thor murmured, somewhat hesitant as his gaze settled on the third entry.
A seriously injured old man would bring unexpected gains, but thirty years later, it would bring a certain crisis.
The time was almost here, yet he could not help hesitating.
Mysterious, seriously injured, unexpected gains, disaster.
Anyone could tell that the old man was important.
But the potential disaster left him unsure whether he should save him or not.
If he did not save him, he might truly miss a major opportunity. But if he did save him and disaster really followed, with his current meager strength, he might not be able to handle it.
His thoughts churned.
Thor glanced at Ryan beside him, then looked again at the marker indicating thirty years later. After pondering for a moment, he finally made his decision.
The night gradually passed.
The blood moon sank, and a new day arrived with the dawn.
Everyone set off once more.
This time, however, their route had clearly changed from the original path, their destination being the location of the mysterious old man mentioned in the intelligence.
In the end, Thor decided to save the old man.
The reason was simple: he had a Golden Finger.
If there truly was a problem, the Golden Finger would warn him. If it was truly beyond his ability to handle, he could just part ways with him.
Besides, the future was still an unknown distance away.
It might be a disaster for him now, but it might not necessarily be one in the future.
Thor was quite confident in that.
Compared to that, the gains before him were what mattered most.
The group continued forward at a slow pace.
The three-mile distance quickly passed.
They gradually drew closer to their destination.
Meanwhile.
In the distance.
A figure staggered along.
Thud!
With a soft sound, his body crashed directly to the ground.
Damn Haigel!
Neil Morton felt his heart sink. He could clearly feel the poison spreading throughout his entire body.
If he had been at his peak, this poison would naturally have been nothing. After all, a Sky Knight's Life Source Power was enough to disperse anything. But that was at his peak. Now, his Life Seed was nearly withered, and his Life Source Power was almost completely exhausted. This poison was undoubtedly fatal.
"Am I going to die like this?"
"I truly cannot accept this... Sophia, forgive me!!"
Neil Morton muttered with a bitter smile on his face.
A dignified Sky Knight of the Empire, someone who might one day break through to become a Saint Domain Knight, had actually been plotted against and reduced to such a state.
Behind his bitter smile, his heart was filled with unwillingness.
But unwillingness was useless. He could feel the poison spreading toward his heart and lungs. Within twenty breaths, he would die completely, and even the gods would be unable to save him then.
Unless he could return to the Empire and receive treatment from its finest priests, there might still be a chance for recovery.
But that was simply impossible.
This was a savage land far from the Empire.
His consciousness gradually grew hazy, and his expression remained filled with unwillingness.
But no matter how unwilling he was, all that remained was his increasingly fading consciousness.
Until, just before his consciousness was about to dissipate completely.
Figures seemed to appear in the distance.
At the sight of those figures, his final thought was that he was likely finished.
Because the only ones who could appear here were probably the Holy Temple's pursuit forces.
But that was his only thought.
The poison had not only spread toward his heart and lungs, but also toward his brain.
His consciousness sank into complete silence.
