Chang'e reached out and hugged Ding Ling tightly, resting her head against his chest.
A blissful smile appeared on her face:
"Yi, you came. You promised me that you would come find me when the moon laurel blossoms bloomed. You did it."
Ding Ling's body went rigid. He did not dare move, afraid that making too much of a disturbance would cause Chang'e's remnant body to scatter.
He himself was utterly baffled.
He had merely been standing here watching Chang'e. How had she found him and called him Yi?
Yi?!
Was she talking about Hou Yi?
Had Chang'e mistaken him for Hou Yi?
Just as Ding Ling stood dazed, one of Chang'e's jade hands was already resting on his brows and eyes.
Her jade hand was broken.
But that did not affect her ability to make simple movements.
She gently stroked Ding Ling's brow and looked up at him, as if trying to see his face clearly.
But her eyes were hollow. It seemed she could see nothing at all, and all he could hear was her soft murmur:
"Yi. You still frown just like you did before. I wish I could smooth away your frown. How I wish there would never be sorrow between your brows."
She spoke softly, as if whispering to herself:
"Don't worry about me. Being able to see you one more time is already enough for me. Now that you've seen me, could you smile? I haven't seen your smiling face in so long. Could you let me see it?"
Her hand gently caressed Ding Ling's face.
Ding Ling's body went numb, and he could not help looking toward Wu Gang.
Wu Gang's eyes were bloodshot. He nodded at Ding Ling, clearly signaling for him to cooperate with Chang'e.
