"What a low ceiling."
On the morning of his third day in the Snowy Wasteland, Linsey opened his eyes beneath the snowdrifts.
He had no death wish that involved sleeping out in the snow and letting the night wind batter him.
So, before it got dark, he had dug a Snow Cave beneath the thick snow to serve as a temporary shelter from the wind.
But before falling asleep, Linsey clearly remembered that the ceiling of the Snow Cave had been about half a meter from his face. After one night's sleep, that gap had shrunk by several centimeters. It was still close to half a meter, but the change was noticeable enough.
"Haa—"
Linsey sat up and breathed warm air against the snow overhead for a while. Sure enough, the ceiling before him showed signs of melting ice.
"Does every Snow Cave slowly collapse in the end?"
After musing over it for a moment, Linsey climbed out of the Snow Cave.
At the edge of its entrance were the steps he had dug, leading up to the snow's surface, now a full three meters above. The wooden plank sled he had made yesterday was also there, though it had been covered with a layer of snow overnight.
Linsey pulled out the wooden plank sled and vigorously brushed off the snow.
He was in no hurry to set off. First, he needed to replenish his strength.

After walking through the snow all day yesterday, Linsey's socks had long since been soaked through.
While the meat roasted, he could dry his socks as well. Linsey had no desire to continue trekking across the Snowy Wasteland in soaking wet socks.
