Background / History

Mu Huanyue arrived at Zhang Lingshan's Hammer-Wielding Hall as a Demon Suppression Envoy to convey a verbal assignment: investigate the South Sea Red Tide Incident in Sea Province. She claimed that Grand Marshal Li Bufan had ordered her to accompany Zhang and keep him under control, using the marshal's authority to compel his cooperation. Privately, however, her main interest was discovering how Zhang had remained on the Skill Transmission Pagoda's ninth floor for more than a month; she hoped to use his secret to reach that floor before advancing to the Meridian Opening Realm herself. 304

Before departing for Sea Province, she accompanied Zhang to Weapon City. There, she was recognized as “Fairy Mu,” received public adoration, and commissioned Mei Tie Feng to forge a divine bow from a complete set of phoenix-type materials. Her rivalry with Qi Yunyao sharpened after learning that Qi had already advanced to the Meridian Opening Realm and commanded considerable influence in Weapon City. 305 310

Mu Huanyue was trapped in Weapon City when Qi Yunyao turned the Weapon Refining Grand Competition into a mass sacrifice for the Sky Piercing Treasure Sword. She retained enough composure to reject Zhang Yushu's attempted assault, escaped with Zhang's help, and later used the Zhang Family's Qi and Blood Fire Seed resonance to find him outside the contaminated city. 317 318

She then hurried the Sea Province mission forward because Dang Zi'an, whom she calls her elder brother, needed South Sea Guanyin Algae to survive his injuries. During the journey, she used her token to infiltrate a compromised post station, fell into the South Sea with Zhang, and adopted the identities “Xiao Yue” and “Xiao Shan” before Jiang Shaoyuan's group. 320 321 322

Repeated dangers at sea—including the General-Level Evil, the South Sea Red Tide, Jiang Mu's schemes, and Nan Yu's hostility—forced Mu Huanyue to recognize that she could become a burden in battles beyond her strength. She nevertheless chose to enter the Red Tide with Zhang, resolving to improve rather than retreat from danger. 324 328 331
