Because of her special status, Su Yue was being held alone in the Imperial Palace's Private Prison.
At Little Four's reminder, Su Qiao took her brother Su Baiwen and headed straight there.
The guards at the entrance immediately held their blades across their path. "Who are you? This is the dungeon. All unrelated persons, leave at once."
Su Qiao raised her token. "Take a look at this."
"The Regent's token?"
The two guards exchanged glances.
How was that possible?
The Regent's personal token could command the army. How could it possibly be in a woman's hands?
Just as the two hesitated, someone suddenly emerged from the dungeon and swiftly kicked each of them. "You useless fools, why haven't you opened the door yet?"
"But..."
They were royal guards.
They belonged to the Emperor.
The guard captain overseeing the prison was clearly more perceptive than the two men. He glared fiercely at them, then respectfully welcomed Su Qiao.
"Princess Consort, my men were ignorant. Please don't take offense. I'll open the door for you at once."
"Mm." Su Qiao did not care. As long as she could get inside, that was all that mattered.
"Princess Consort, please watch your step. It's rather dark inside."
Su Qiao looked around.
The prison was empty. Although it was somewhat gloomy, it was still fairly clean.
"Where is the Empress—no, where is Su Yue being held?"
So the Princess Consort had come looking for her?
"Please follow me, Princess Consort."
Su Qiao followed him to the end and saw Su Yue hugging her knees in the corner of the cell. She waved at the guard captain. "You may leave."
"Yes." Seeing that she had brought several people, the guard captain said no more. He turned and called for the two subordinates behind him to leave.
